It was the least I could do for her. She gave me a perspective on Sophia I hadn’t considered. She’d also shown compassion to me when others would have punched me in the face.

Damn, Morellis were nothing like their reputations.

From what I heard, the gifts arrived just in time. That very evening, Eva went into labor and delivered her little boy. I’d thought about going to the hospital to pay my respects to Eva and meet the new heir to the Hughes empire but decided against it. The chance of running into Sophia and causing her more pain was the last thing I wanted to do.

This time with Eva was something Sophia had looked forward to from the moment I met her. My presence would have only dimmed the joy of the occasion.

“Did you want some baby goods as well?”

“It is common courtesy to show gratitude to all parties involved in caring for an ailing friend.

“I neither asked for nor required your care. Hence, no gratitude. Plus, Eva fed me. You threatened to kill me, bitched at me, and then ate my food. Eva brought me dinner, not you.”

“I heated it, so I am allowed to partake.”

“Tomato, tomahto. Now, get to your point. I have other sites to visit.”

“Is that all you’re doing?”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“Where have you been for the last few weeks? I want to know what you’re up to. No one sees you around.”

“I work. I go home. I work some more. That is my mundane life.”

“What does the coveted Dom, Mr. Pierce, do for recreation?”

Was this jackass serious? The thought of touching anyone but Sophia, let alone going to a club, never crossed my mind.

I glared at him. “You think I’m cheating on you and your precious club? Did you forget I’m no longer a member of Violent Delights?”

“I want to know if you’re cheating on my sister.”

Before I realized I moved, I had Lucian by the collar. “Listen up, Morelli. Sophia and I are a subject you have no part in. Whatever happens between us stays between us.”

“You were serious. I never thought I’d see the day,” Lucian smirked and chuckled.

“What’s so fucking amusing?”

“What you said when you were shitfaced. You can’t touch another woman because of Sophia. You’re living like a goddamned monk because she’s got you by the balls.”

I scoured through my memory and then remembered what I’d said to him the morning of his invasion of my penthouse.

I shoved him back. “This is why I don’t drink. I fucking get verbal diarrhea.”

“What the fuck happened with the two of you? You were supposed to fix it with Sophia?”

“Why don’t you ask her?” I gripped the back of my head. “She’s your sister.”

“She told me to fuck off and mind my own business.”

I couldn’t help but smile, imagining Lucian’s face as Sophia said those words to his face. When she unleashed her Italian temper, it was something to watch. Most people wouldn’t dare raise their voice to Lucian Morelli, more on the side of pissing their pants the second he stepped into the room.

“Then you should follow her directive. She means what she says.”

I was one to talk.

Especially when I couldn’t follow my own advice when it came to Sophia. Then again, she handled me in the same fashion she handled her brother. Well, maybe not in the same fashion, but the message read the same way. It was a loud and clear, fuck off if we planned to boss her around.
