“This is a command, as your Dom.”

Tears streamed down her cheeks. “I have to get this off you. I almost have it figured out. Let me try this. Please.”

I cupped her cheek, brushing the dampness from her skin. “There is no time. You will not die because of me.”

Another woman would not lose her life because of my negligence. This woman was my everything, the only one to break open my heart and make it possible for me to love.

Why couldn’t she see that she had to get out of here? She had to live for my death to mean something.

“I am not Maria. You will not take on some guilt that isn’t yours to carry. Do you hear me?”

“I never said you were.”

She leaned closer, bringing us nose to nose. “I see it in your eyes. I know you, Damon Pierce. I fucking know you.”

“Leave.” Unable to resist, I fisted her hair.

“No.”

“You don’t get to say no. I’m your Dom, and it is an order. Get out.”

“Not happening, so get over it.”

“This isn’t the time to play brat. You aren’t safe. I’m ending it. Go if you love me.”

She jerked as if I’d slapped her with my words. Hurt washed over her features. Immediately I felt like an asshole, but I’d use anything in my arsenal to get her out of there.

“Don’t use my love against me.”

“Go.” I drew her forehead to mine. “I love you, Sophia. Please do this for me.”

Lifting up slightly, she held my gaze. Her lips trembled as if accepting the situation, and she leaned down to kiss me.

My heart shattered knowing this would be the last time I’d ever feel her mouth pressed to mine, but also seeing she’d have a long life and future.

When she pulled back, she continued to hold my gaze and stood. She took three steps backward, glanced to her side, her lips trembling, and then returned her focus to me.

All of a sudden, a coolness washed over her features before a crease formed between her brows, and with a firm set to her jaw, she whispered, “Marriage.”

“You can’t be serious.” I pushed up with my arms, ignoring the pain I caused in my head and body. “Sophia, this isn’t a scene. You promised to leave.”

She cocked a hand on her hip. “I made no such promise. You pulled the Dom on me. I’m using my safeword. Deal with it.”

“Dammit, Sophia.”

Ignoring me, she shifted her attention to push more of the bar in my direction. My heartbeat sped up, and a chill slid down my back despite the heat building in the room when everything grew quiet outside of the periodic hiss and pop every few seconds in the distance.

“Over here,” she said.

I barely caught the shadow of light silhouetting her before I noticed she planned to push a loose ten-foot stabilizer beam down from the ceiling.

“Are you out of your fucking mind?” The heavy wood crashed down before I finished my question.

It landed on whatever contraption Sophia created, and the section securing my thighs and waist to the ground jerked up, releasing all the pressure on my lower body and flooding my system with blood and sensations.

I fell back, rolling to my side. I could barely breathe. Stars appeared behind my eyes as dizziness overwhelmed me and nausea filled my stomach.

The agony of my shattered foot radiated through me in each wave of my nerves firing to life. All the movement only added to the overwhelming pounding in my head.
