Jax grabbed my cock. His sticky fingers fondled me, tickling under my balls, then he moved back, stroking my cock. Each touch felt like unbelievable pleasure.

“Oh, God, Jax!”

Jax must have lost his patience with the slower pace as he flipped us over, almost making us fall off the bed. With a laugh, we scooted farther away from the edge. Then Jax took over.

He held the back of my thighs, getting into a position that worked. He fucked hard and fast into me, and his eyes clenched shut. Jax’s breath came fast, and the pressure had me panting along with him.

In no time at all, a million stars exploded behind my eyes, and a thousand galaxies moved with my release. I heard Jax grunting, but it was in the distance, almost as if it had happened in another lifetime and now was only a long-forgotten memory.

Later, we lay snuggled together with a movie on. It wasn’t what I expected from Jax. But we talked and snuggled and had more sex. Then fell asleep in each other’s arms. Was that enough?

Chapter nine

Neil Had A Bad Day

Allmywarmandcozy feelings crashed the next morning at work. The first thing I had to do was deal with Tanner. I hated firing people.

The kid’s shoulders slumped, and I swore he was pouting. “I’m sorry, but…”

“I’m sorry too, but I can’t deal with it anymore. I need someone who’s going to be here. You had more than enough warnings.”

“Fine. I’ll clean out my locker.” He didn’t look me in the eyes. Tanner knew he was wrong, but I still felt bad.

“Tanner. When youwerehere, you did a good job. But you have to be here.”

“I know. Thanks.”

He left, and I had to deal with more shit. Izzy showed up late, which wasn’t like her. She was normally the only one I could count on. When she finally showed, I gave her a stern warning and headed back to the office. I needed to check on the CEUs for the team. It was important to keep up their continuing education in order to keep their licenses. Chad and Mia were late on taking courses. I would have to cover their schedule to send them to an upcoming class.

It never ended.

After work, I took Jax to a nice restaurant—much nicer than the one we previously went to. The lighting was low, and the menu more expensive. I wanted to show Jax how much I appreciated him. We’d had a great time the day before.

We ordered steaks and expensive whiskey—a spicy rye that paired well with the meal. It all seemed nice, but Jax had seemed more and more agitated as the night went on. By the time we were finishing our meals, he was eyeing the door.

“What’s wrong, Jax? Talk to me.”

“I’m fine.”

“You don’t seem fine.” I put my hands in my lap and prepared for the breakup.

Jax huffed. “It’s fine.”

I pursed my lips together and met Jax’s gaze. “Look, if this is over—”

“Over? We’re just getting started.”

“I know, but you’re acting like you’re ready to bolt, and from what your dad said—”

“My dad? What the hell does he have to do with this? Damn, Neil, I thought we agreed he wasn’t a factor in this.”

“Well, I don’t know exactly what this is, so how could I agree?”

Jax dropped his silverware on his plate. “Fuck. This is always the same shit.”

“What shit? If you don’t talk to me, how can I know?”
