“But I didn’t touch her. I wasn’t the one who attacked her.”

“Maybe not, but you were involved. Your actions prompted her to follow you into the alley, at which point she was assaulted. Correct me if I’m wrong, but thatwasyour intention. Was it not?”

“No. I swear to you. He promised me if I did what he asked, I could?—”

“Whopromised you?” I demanded, pressing the blade even harder against his throat.

His wide, panicked eyes locked on mine as his chin quivered. “I don’t know his name. He approached me last week. Knew everything about me, man. Including...”

“Including about your shrine to a serial killer?”

“It’s not him I care about.”

“It’s her,” I finished, my nostrils flaring.

I fought against the urge to slice his throat right then and there, all reason momentarily leaving me at the mere thought of someone touching Imogene.

“He told me if I did something for him, he’d reward me.”

“What did he ask you to do?”

“Deliver three necklaces.”

“And your reward? What was it?”

His lips curved into a sickening grin as he replied, “Why, Imogene Prescott, of course. As long as I got her to follow me out of the club, she’d be mine. We were to take her to a cabin in the mountains and keep her out of sight.”

“Glen Roy,” I seethed, struggling to keep an even head as the image of seeing that bastard on top of Imogene flashed before my eyes. “You were working with him?”

“I suppose. I never met him until a few days ago.”

“This guy who hired you... What did he look like?”

“Mid- to late-thirties. Dirty blonde hair. Wore expensive suits.”

I straightened, setting the knife onto the workbench as I pulled my phone out of my pocket. With a few quick taps, I brought up a photo of Liam and held it in front of Benjamin.

“Is this him?” My voice dripped with barely contained anger.

“Yes.”

“You’re certain?”

“Yes.” He quickly nodded. “That’s him.”

I clenched my fists, every muscle in my body vibrating with fury. Why would Liam hire this guy to send Imogene necklaces? And why would he plan for her to be attacked outside the club? What was his goal in wanting her kidnapped?

Regardless of his motive in any of that, I couldn’t ignore that this situation presented me with an unexpected opportunity. One I’d be a fool not to use to my advantage.

After all, he’d pinned my murder on an innocent man. He should know exactly how that felt.

“You know what, Benji...” I began with a smirk. “I do believe this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.”

“F-friendship?” Benjamin repeated, blinking repeatedly. “Does that mean you’re going to let me go?” He looked at me hopefully.

I barked out a laugh. “Not on your life. Unfortunately for you, I can’t have anyone learning who I really am. Can’t have you running to Liam Pierce about any of this.”

“I swear. I won’t tell him. If you let me go, you’ll never see me again.”
