Not when he was the first person in years to make me feel even a fraction of what I did for Samuel.

“Or perhaps I should ask… What do youwant?”

“I want…” My body flooded with warmth, my nerve endings lighting on fire.

“Tell me,” he said again, this time more forcefully.

“I want…”

“Yes,” he breathed, his lips moving even closer to mine.

My eyes fluttered into the back of my head as he looped his arm around my waist, yanking me against his body. There was no mistaking what he wanted. What heneeded.

“I want…”

He cradled my face in his strong hands, running the pad of his thumb along my bottom lip. “Yes.”

I opened my eyes and met his gaze, everything about this feeling like a dream.

Had I imagined what it might feel like to be wrapped in Gideon’s arms, his body flush with mine? Of course I had, especially after my conversation with Melanie at the spa earlier today.

I didn’t think I’d actually follow through with any of it. Didn’t think I’d put myself out there, especially in Liam’s house.

Right now, Liam was the last person on my mind.

The only thing I was thinking about was the buzz of pleasure spiraling through me, a dull ache settling in my core.

“You, Gideon.” I licked my lips, my heart thrashing in my chest. “I want you.”

My words echoed around us, the seconds seeming to stretch as I waited for him to do something. Say something. Anything.

But he didn’t. He just stared at me, each second feeling like an eternity.

When I didn’t think I could handle another moment of brutal anticipation, a groan tumbled from his throat and he tightened his grip on my head, pulling me toward him with a forceful urgency.

Then he slammed his lips against mine.

ChapterFifteen

Imogene

Every fiber of my being screamed that this was wrong. I shouldn’t have been kissing Gideon in Liam’s house where he could walk in on us at any second.

But when Gideon coaxed my lips to part, his tongue sliding with mine, all thoughts of where we were and what we were doing disappeared. Instead, he was all I thought about. All I cared about.

Not Liam.

Not my past.

Just this man who invaded my every waking thought since I first saw him.His touch ignited a fire deep within me that had been dormant ever since I lost Samuel. But with Gideon’s kiss, it burned brightly once more.

I moaned into him, the expert way his tongue stroked mine causing a pool of heat to surge between my legs. He tangled his fingers in my hair, his hold greedy and relentless. Everything about his kiss was exhilarating, yet familiar at the same time.

The way he held me. The way he tilted my head. The way he groaned into my mouth. I couldn’t shake the feeling I’d been here before.

Maybe I had.

Maybe Gideon and I had known each other in a former life, and the powers that be sent him to help me move on from Samuel.
