Instead, it would be to kill Alton. To finally vindicate the part he played in my demise, as well as Jonah’s death.

“Look who decided to join the party,” Henry retorted.

I ignored him, striding purposefully toward the rows of camera feeds displayed on the various screens throughout the room. Each one showed a different part of Alton’s life — his corner office overlooking Central Park in New York, his sleek office in Los Angeles, his luxurious homes scattered across the country.

Henry even managed to install cameras in a hunting cabin he owned in the mountains that no one knew about. Which was where I had a feeling he planned to hide out once everything unraveled in the coming days.

“What’s he been doing?” I pressed.

“He had a cleaning crew come into his LA office yesterday. Same with New York.”

“And by cleaning crew…”

“I’m not talking about people who scrub the toilets and vacuum the carpet.”

“So they were shredding documents.”

He nodded. “Looks like Alton’s worried what the feds might find should they investigate his latest blunder. Which they will, thanks to a tip from a whistleblower on the inside.” He winked.

“What about James and Liam?”

“They’re not answering his calls.”

“Damn.”

“James can’t have any appearance of impropriety, considering his position in the government, so he’s distanced himself.”

“He’ll get what’s coming to him soon enough,” I assured him.

“As for Liam…”

“Liam’s just an asshole who disposes of people when they no longer have any use to him,” I finished.

“That about sums it up. Plus, he has bigger concerns with the body that was found on his boat.”

“Did the police pull the surveillance video from the marina?”

“Sure did.” Henry flashed that conniving grin of his. “Pity to find the hard drive was corrupted.”

“Gee, I wonder how that happened,” I remarked sarcastically.

“It’s a mystery, one even the best tech geniuses will never be able to solve. Of course, considering Liam’s background in computers, the police are even more suspicious of him now.”

I chuckled. “Remind me to never get on your bad side.”

“Likewise.”

I gave his shoulder a squeeze, then turned from him, heading out of the office.

“Where are you going?” Henry asked.

“To get some rest.”

“You don’t want to watch it all fall apart?” He nodded at the clock on the wall that showed it was mere minutes before 6:30. The stock market would open soon, and when it did, GeoCom’s stock would most likely take a giant nosedive off a cliff.

I glanced at the feed of Alton’s Los Angeles office where he currently sat on the edge of his couch, his leg nervously bouncing as his anxious stare remained fixed on the large television on the opposite wall. A stock ticker scrolled along the bottom of the screen as a reporter discussed the legal trouble GeoCom’s CEO was in and what it meant for the company going forward.

The prognosis wasn’t good.
