Ares stares at me, seemingly frustrated before he licks his lower lip. “This conversation isn’t over, Grace.”

“You say that a lot, don’t you, god of war?”

“Only where you’re concerned, Grace.”

“And why is that?” I whisper and close my eyes just for a moment, while I remember the last time Ares told me something wasn’t over.

Apparently, he remembers too because that crooked, sexy smile spreads across his annoyingly handsome face. “Go sleep, tiny dancer. I’ll talk to you soon.”

The next day, I wake up to a text from my sister.

Everly

Why am I hearing from Ares that you’re hurt?

What the hell?

He went to Everly?

I’m going to kill the little snitch.

Grace

Because he’s a man. They think any kind of pain is bad. They’re all big babies. I twisted my ankle and had an ice pack on it the other day. That’s all.

Everly

Why were you even talking to him?

Shit.

I never told Everly about the night of her wedding, and I’ve absolutely never mentioned the fact that I’m attracted to her husband’s brother. Everly’s a bit... hmmm... dramatic? I don’t think it would go over well. It’s one of the many reasons why I told him we’re off-limits in the first place. I can only imagine how she’d flip out if we were together and how much worse it would be when we’d inevitably break up.

Grace

I wanted to congratulate him on scoring the winning goal. That was awesome. Is Cross excited?

Everly

Yeah. It was pretty amazing. The whole city has been celebrating for days. Wish you were here.

Grace

Me too. Miss you, sissy.

Ares

Islap my hand down on my nightstand, silencing my phone.

Fuck.

I’m not ready to wake up.

Feels like someone took a sledgehammer to my skull last night.

This is why I don’t drink like this anymore.

The phone rings again, and I man up and answer.
