“She did. Her parents were amazing. They never stopped trying to help her. But she struggled for years. Last I heard, she was a few years sober and getting her degree in drug counseling.”

“You know that’s not me, right?” I ask, needing to get him out of the past and back to the present.

“It could have been though.”

I lift up on my toes and press my lips to his. “But it’s not. I’m right here. I haven’t touched my prescription since London, months ago. I’m okay.”

“Yeah, baby. I know.” He drops to his knees and presses his lips to my stomach. “Now I just need to keep you both that way.”

“What are you—” Bellamy starts, but Everly cuts her off.

“Are you kidding me?” She shoves Ares out of the way and presses her hands on my flat stomach. “Are you pregnant?”

I’m not sure if I want to cry or scream or maybe laugh. I just got him back. Just changed my entire life and had the hardest conversations I’ve ever had with the two people I love most in the world before I found out I was pregnant. Was it really too much to ask the universe for a day or two to get used to the idea of a baby before everyone else found out?

“What the hell, blondie?” Ares grumbles as he gets up, and Cross laughs.

“Might as well get used to this shit. These two talk almost every night. Grace was in my bed more than I was during the season.”

Everly looks at Ares, who I’m pretty sure is thinking dirty, dirty thoughts. “Get your mind out of the gutter, god of war. He means FaceTime.” Apparently, that’s what she’s thinking too.

“Oh, just wait,” I tell them both. “It’ll be worse now that I’m home for good.”

“Yeah? Everly could be in our bed?” Ares asks with the damn sexy smirk.

“Our bed. I like it.” I kiss him.

Cross growls, “Without my wife.”

“Who’s talking about your wife?” Ares blows him off, and I want to kiss him again.

“Oh my God. You could come stay with me when the guys are gone for away games. We can get fat and pregnant together,” Everly says.

“Wait... Who’s pregnant?” Bellamy asks, and I laugh and reach for Ares’s hand.

Without another word, she turns to walk away.

“Hey,” Ares yells out. “Where are you going? We haven’t told anyone yet.”

“I’m not saying a word. I’m just getting the hell out of here in case it’s contagious.”

Hours later, with my head resting against the wall, and my arms in my new favorite spot wrapped around the toilet, Ares walks in with a ginger ale and a smile. “So I was thinking...”

“Hasn’t anyone ever told you you’re not supposed to do that?” I tease with what little energy I have left.

“Listen, I thought our parents handled the whole pregnancy thing pretty well. But I think we got off easy on the questions since it was already a shit day. I want to have answers for them and for us.”

It turned out, Bellamy didn’t need to tell or not tell anyone anything. Momma Wilder was in the kitchen while we were talking and heard everything, and we decided we couldn’t let one parent know and not the others. I still need to have the full-blown, breakdown conversation with my parents. But in light of everything happening, that’s going to have to wait until we get back to Kroydon Hills.

“Okay, shoot. What answers have you come up with while my head has been in a toilet?” I stretch my legs out in front of meand watch Ares’s stormy eyes go molten hot as my dress slides up high on my thigh.

“I think we should buy a house close to Cross and Everly. That way the two of you have each other when Cross and I are on the road. The hockey season is long as fuck, baby. And you’re going to need help.”

I tilt my head to the side and bite down on my lip. “Okay, Wilder, I’m trying to follow where you’re going with this, but you lost me.”

He flips his phone around and shows me a picture of the house next to Cross and Everly’s.

“The Vicolis live there. That house isn’t for sale.”
