“They were out before I got in the shower. Should be fine until we get back. Right, girls?”

Tai wags her tail. Cher sighs from her perch on the rug in front of the fireplace.

“Sounds good. And before I forget.” I turn and grab a bag from the kitchen counter. “For you.”

Jen blinks. “What is it?”

“Open it.”

A crease appears between her eyebrows as she digs out a small grey box and opens it. She blinks again, green eyes going wide. “Oh my God.”

“That’s what you tell your girlfriends I make you yell in bed.”Stop.

“Abel.” She turns the box around so I can see the ring inside. “It’s not?—”

“Real? Yeah, it’s real. On loan from Riley’s diamond guy.”

“Riley has a diamond guy?”

“Of course Riley has a diamond guy.”

She pushes out her lips. “Makes sense. He does live on a yacht and is obsessed with Lu, so.”

“You like it?” I nod at the pear-shaped diamond on a dainty yellow gold band. Nick, the diamond guy, showed me a bunch of different options this afternoon, but this one felt the most like Jen. Classic, a little bougie—three and a half carats—sparkly as all get out.

Gorgeous, just like her.

“It’sinsane.” She tries to hand it back to me. “Which is why I can’t wear it. What if I lose it? What if, I don’t know, one of the girls eats it or something?”

“Are Cher and Tai in the habit of eating diamond jewelry?”

Jen cuts me a look. “I don’t have any diamond jewelry, so I wouldn’t know. But if it’s on loan?—”

“Put it on, Jen.”

“Abel.”

“You marry me, you wear my ring. End of story.”

Raising a brow, she pulls the ring from its velvet cushion. “Look at you, pulling the man-of-the-house card. Is the barefoot-and-pregnant-woman-in-the-kitchen part next?”

A vicious surge of arousal rips through me at the wordpregnant. It takes me totally off guard. I’m a strict no-commitment guy. But Jen mentioning the ultimate commitment?—

Yeah, that turns me on. In a big way. Which is a big fucking problem.

“You’re shit in the kitchen,” I manage.

Jen slides the ring onto her finger. “I am indeed. Wow, I think this thing just blinded me.”

“Just like my love.” I open the door. “Let’s go.”

“Wait. I’m wearing this out? The ring? What if someone sees it? I thought we were waiting to show the world we’re together until after we told Tuck.”

I don’t have a good answer to that. I just like the idea of Jen wearing my ring. Of guys being disappointed when they check her out—because they will be checking her out—and see a big ass rock on her finger.

“Let them see it.” I shrug. It’s reckless. A totally unnecessary risk.

But fuck it. I don’t want anyone else thinking this girl is up for grabs.
