I stare at the phone.

Should I call her back? Should I try to get out of the closet and look around? Should I…

I hear a groan. It starts low at first, then cascades into a roar.

I tuck myself small.

And I pray.

“I know where she is.”

When Gia walks into the room, Sal, Nico and I spin.

“How?”

She holds up her phone. “Guess you should have given her your number, brother?”

Guilt punches through me, and Gia softens. “Sorry. She called. She managed to get free and she’s hiding.”

Questions bombard me. “How did she get free?”

“I’ll tell you in the car. Change.”

“Gia…”

But she’s already gone.

I look at Sal. “Come. I have something that you could wear. Nico, change.”

Both men follow my command.

Mere moments later, we’re back in the hallway of the home. The guards have instructions to keep Luna under lock and key, which should be easy because she’s asleep in her room.

I asked them to die before they let her be harmed. I have already lost one of the women I love tonight.

I refuse to lose another.

There is no doubt in my mind that I love Caterina. I love her more than life itself. She is everything to me, and the last thing that I said to her…

We argued.

It kills me that we argued, and I never told her how I feel.

This will not be our last interaction.

I only hope the sentiment is true.

I survey the people before me.

Years ago, Gia invested in a significant amount of tactical gear. I do not wear it often, choosing instead to remain in the formal clothing that my father preferred as well.

Today, however, it’s necessary.

After a moment, I look to Gia. “You’re certain?”
