She smiled. “More like Charity made sure.”
“That’s true. Let’s get going.”
She nodded and looked around the room again.
“What?”
“Not sure. It’s like something is missing.”
“Maybe it’s because most of the evidence was collected. Or, I should say all of the evidence was collected.”
Her phone rang and she saw Charity’s face. Their lab tech was one of the best in her field.
“Hey, woman,” Charity said before Tamilya had a chance to say anything.
“Hey, yourself. Was there something you needed?”
“No. I just wanted to let you know that TJ brought by some more of the evidence.”
“I saw that in the text.”
“Oh, hmmm.”
“What is it you really want to know?”
“So, you’re working with Marcus on this case?”
She rolled her eyes. “Goodbye, Charity.”
Tamilya clicked off her phone.
“What was that about?”
She shook her head and walked back out into the living area, then out the door. They were on the elevator before he said anything.
“Tammy,” he said.
“I told you not to use that name anymore. It makes people think they can use it too.”
He didn’t say anything, so she glanced at him. He did not look happy with her. Tough kitties.
“Listen, I know that you have unresolved feelings or thoughts about our relationship. I don’t. And while I don’t want to belittle you for what you feel, I also don’t want it spilling over into our work. Please, I need to keep this part of my life above board. I know you understand that.”
He sighed and nodded, but said nothing else. A few people got on when the elevator stopped. Marcus might not like the situation, but it was one of his own doing. For her part, she wouldn’t lose her focus.
Not for him or anyone else.

Marcus was still irritatedwhen they got back to the office. He knew he had pushed it today, even though it hadn’t been that much. When they walked into the common area, everyone but Adam and Del was sitting at the conference table.
“Hey,” Charity said with a smile.
Everyone turned to look at them.
“What’s going on?” Marcus asked.
“We’re waiting on the boss. He’s finishing up an interview,” Autumn said. “And the guy is hot.”
