TJ grimaced. “We didn’t know he was in Hawaii. Actually, no one knew where he was.”

It just got worse and worse by the minute. The ramifications were hitting her. “And we’re just finding out about this?” she asked.

“He had no ties here, so it doesn’t make sense that he would show up here.”

“He simply disappeared and there was no warning?” Marcus asked.

TJ opened his mouth to argue, but Tamilya stopped him.

“If he were missing, and even if they knew it, they wouldn’t throw out the name for a while. They would want to try their damndest to keep it under wraps. Telling people they were looking for him would alert Russian authorities, especially if the FSB got hold of it. He’s got to have the goods on some of the most powerful people in Russia. If they truly thought he was dead, the FBI would want to keep it out of the media.”

“We’re not the media,” Del said.

She shrugged. “Any kind of leak could be bad. The Bear is everywhere,” she said, referencing one of the many Cold War slogans spies used. Russia was known as the Bear. Their ability to buy off people was legendary. “There’s a good chance Golubev just went on a bender.”

“Really?” Del asked.

“Yeah. When I was with the FBI, he had a reputation that always worried his Russian handlers. He liked women, a lot of them, the flashier the better. He was also a drunk, and he couldn’t seem to keep his money in the bank. He would spend it as fast as he earned it. If it was big and expensive, he wanted it. He earned fortunes several times just to screw them away. Literally.”

“And that’s a problem?” Marcus asked.

“Of course. You know the issues with someone in debt. They are ripe for being bought by the wrong people. I know people in the military who didn’t get high security jobs because of their debt. Also, his need for women to love him would definitely open him up to a honey pot kind of job.”

Sending in someone to seduce a spy just didn’t happen in the movies. The honey pot scheme was used by every spy organization in the world.

“There’s panic in the FBI right now because they don’t know where the leak is,” TJ said.

“I can imagine,” Marcus said. As usual, there was a thread of disdain in his voice. Marcus had a real hatred for the FBI these days, and she didn’t know why. He hadn’t shown it when they worked together in DC.

“Okay, what do you want from us?” she asked.

“TFH has better contacts on the ground. You can ask around without causing too many problems. I show up with my haole face and they’re going to know I’m FBI."

Marcus snorted. “It’s not like Tammy and I won’t have the same problem.”

Del’s attention shifted from Marcus to her. She knew he caught the change in her name, but their boss said nothing. It wasn’t like they had hidden their past relationship, but he had never used that particular nickname for her since they’d split up. Until this morning.

“I figured you could have Adam help, but don’t give me that kind of bullshit. I know both of you and I know you have the contacts,” TJ said.

She could see that Marcus was raring up to argue with TJ. What she didn’t understand was why. She knew he liked TJ, but for some reason, this request was sticking in his craw. They didn’t have time for that though. Not if they had someone running around Hawaii killing off operatives.

“First of all, we have no idea why he was here. More than likely he followed a woman because he had no issues with being led around by his dick.”

“I thought you were the gentler sex?” Del asked, humor lacing his words.

She rolled her eyes. “It could have been chance. It could have been a meet up. Marcus and I can sniff around, but if you take down a ring, TFH gets partial credit. It’s that or we don’t help you.”

TJ rocked back on his heels. “Anything. The FBI would do anything to get this situated without any kind of media.”

“We aren’t the ones who have an issue with leaks,” Marcus said.

“True. Okay, I’ll shoot all three of you the information. I’ll continue to be the POC as usual.”

“We need access to the crime scene. Do we still have that?” Marcus asked.

“Yeah,” TJ said.

“We’ll keep you informed,” Del said rising from behind his desk. Both she and Marcus stayed seated. Del would definitely want to talk this out. It took a few minutes to finish up with TJ, then he rejoined them in his office, closing the door behind him.
