“He did,” she says abruptly, and I look at her with raised brows as she looks anywhere but at me.

“Everything okay?” I ask tentatively.

She sighs, finally towards us as she says, “I’ve been holding this in, but I need to tell someone.”

We glance at one another. I think I already know what’s coming. Secrets in this family don't stay hidden for long.

“Jackson was offered the head coaching job with the Warriors.” Her smile is contagious. She's proud, despite her fear of others' opinions.

“Oh, my god! That’s fantastic! Congratulations!”

Chelsea mimics the reaction. “He finally did it! You've waited a long time for this.”

“We have.” She looks relieved at our support. “This is where he’s always wanted to end up.”

“Does everyone know yet?”

“No, it just happened. That’s what my call was today. I need Zach to make Dane the point of contact here because he’ll be getting all the clients. We have contracts to negotiate and we’ll have to fly to Carolina sometime next week. But he’s going to accept.”

We hug and when she pulls back from me; she doesn’t let my hand go. “Billy knows. Jackson actually told him first.”

I smile. The way this family leans on Billy, and none of them even realize it, not even Billy. He sees himself as the one always needing help, but I wish he’d see that they all help each other.

“I thought there was something going on.”

“Why? Has he been off?”

“No, not really. But I can always tell when he’s working something over in his head.”

“He’s come a long way.”

“He has.” He really has, which has me once again questioning why I keep holding us back.

“How are you feeling?”

“Good actually. The nausea is really only bad in the morning and-” My phone rings in my pocketbook and I dig it out. Seeing it’s Billy, I answer on speaker.

“Hey babe, I’m here with your si-”

“Can you come home? I need to talk to you.”

His tone of voice is off, and I glance at Francesca and Chelsea. “Sure. Are you okay?”

“Just come home, Adley.”

The line goes dead and my stomach drops. “Do you guys know what’s going on? Is everyone okay?”

They both check their phones. Chelsea’s face goes pale. “Tell me.”

She shakes her head. “Adam just text saying he thinks Billy figured out you’re pregnant.”

“What! How? Adam promised he wouldn’t tell!” She’s shaking her head still and tries to get Adam on the phone. “I’m just going to go. I’ll call you guys later.”

I jet from the store, my mind swimming the whole time because I know I should have told him.

I should have told him long before now and whatever I walk into right now is my own damn fault.

I can only hope he’ll hear me out.
