“Carry me,” she says, her head touching his.
“Can Wyatt and I tell you something before we go? Just in case you get sleepy on the ride down the mountain…”
“I’m not sleepy,” she says, perking up.
“Mm-hmm,” I say under my breath.
“What is it?” she asks. “Are we going on the alpine slide again?”
“Sure, yeah, we can do that again sometime,” Wyatt says. “If it’s okay with your mom…”
I grin up at him.
“You are so getting all the brownie points tonight,” I say, as Logan coughs, “Brown-noser,” into his fist at the same time.
“Yay,” she cheers.
“I’ll make this short and sweet since all of us are distracted.” I laugh. “Wyatt is going to be spending a lot more time with us.”
“Yayyy,” she cheers louder.
“He’s Mama’s boyfriend,” I add, and her little head bounces side to side.
“And what else?” she asks happily, clapping.
“Uh…that’s it for now.” My voice trails off, and I look up at Wyatt to see him grinning at Dakota.
I swoon a little.
Okay, a lot.
“I already knowed he was our boyfriend,” she says.
“You did?” Wyatt laughs. His eyes meet mine for a second, all lit up. “How did you know?”
“Because you bring us flowers and our favorite treats, and you call me Sweets and sometimes you call Mama Little Rocket…”
Wyatt nods thoughtfully. “Yep, that pretty much sums it up.”
Logan chuckles. “Sounds like she’s got your number, bro.”
Wyatt laughs.
Dakota shivers against Logan and he tries to warm her up, as we start walking toward the gondola station.
“Brr,” Dakota says. “Is this winter?”
“Oh, Sweets. We’re only getting started. This is technically still fall, but around here the snow comes anyway. Snow is in the air. I can feel it.”
“Really?” I stare at him, shocked. “Already?”
“Oh yeah. We’re into November. Sometimes it’s already snowed long before now.”
“I love snow!” Dakota says. “Is it snowing tonight?”
“When were you around snow?” Logan asks.
“She hasn’t been yet,” I tell him, laughing. “She just already knows she loves it…my eternal optimist.”
