“I know, I know. Sorry.” She shakes her head, still laughing. “I’m glad we’ve…worked through it.”

“Me too.” I smile at her and it’s nice.

She’snice.

It’s easy to see why everyone around here has fallen for her—I seem to be the only one who has dragged my feet.

We both go our separate ways, although it’s not the last I see of her. Her melodic voice pages me throughout the day and it’s hard not to notice her long legs as she walks by me. She gets off before I do, but the reprieve is short-lived because she’s already there when I get to Grinny’s, smiling and looking all cozied up to my family. And shit, she looks amazing at work every damn day, but she’s changed into a dress and it’s almost impossible to not stare.

I hug everyone but Marlow, and my nephew Owen and Dakota are busy playing, so I just say hello and take the plate Callum hands me, dishing up food. Dakota runs up to me and wraps her arms around my neck when I sit down.

“Dr. Wyatt! I’m so happy to see you.”

“Well, hello there, Sweets. How are you doing?”

She holds up a LEGO and then holds up her other hand. “I’mgreat. Look, Dr. Wyatt, you were right. No more stink.” She giggles.

This kid. How could anyone resist that face and that laugh?

“AndOwen’s letting me play with Hermioneep,” she adds.

“It’s Hermione,” Owen says, trying not to laugh. “Hi, Uncle Wy.”

“Hey, O.” I ruffle his hair and he grins.

I take the LEGO from Dakota and hold it up to her. “Hermione is a solid character. You know what? You kind of look like her.”

“I do?” Dakota gasps.

“You do. Did you like theHarry Pottermovies?”

“I haven’t seen them yet, but I really, really want to.” She turns to look back and I see Marlow watching us.

“You should see them. Not as good as the books, but pretty great,” I say.

“Mama, Dr. Wyatt says I should watch theHarry Pottermovies!”

“Maybe sometime soon…when we’re sure they won’t give you nightmares,” Marlow says, narrowing her eyes at me.

“Right,” I say.

She smirks to let me know she’s not too peeved, and damn, I sure am glad we’ve worked through things too because I like this playful side of her.

“Whatever your mom says,” I tell Dakota, as if I’m only speaking to her. “She knows better than I do when you’ll be ready to watch certain movies.” I lift my head and look at Marlow just in time to see her smile.

“What’s it like working at Pine Community, Marlow?” Scarlett asks. “How are you getting along with this one?” She nudges me.

I roll my eyes and nudge her back.

Marlow pushes her hair back. “It’s going well. I like everyone…” Her eyes lift to mine. “And Dr. Wyatt has turned out to be…very nice.” Her teeth go over her lip as she tries not to laugh. “Just don’t get in the way of his blueberry muffins.”

“Are you still eating those every day?” Theo says. “No wonder Lar and Mar are hassling me about not seeing you often enough. Get your ass over to Happy Cow.“

“I’m over there plenty,” I say. “They’re doing just fine.” But I’m laughing too. “It’s a great muffin,” I insist.

“What do you get when a snoop and a donkey enter a room?” Owen says.

“What?” Dakota giggles.
