“How do you get all that done with my brother hanging on you every minute?” Scarlett asks, tapping her chin like she’s so curious.

We all laugh and Sofie throws a smiley face pillow at her. Scarlett pretends it guts her but then tosses it back.

“Morgan’s Sanctuary is going to take a while, and I’m not taking in any new horses until Theo and I are back from our honeymoon, so it’s been good timing…almost like a stress reliever to work on wedding stuff,” Sofie says.

“I have never heard anyone talk about wedding planning as a stress reliever,” Holly says, laughing.

I put my arm around Sofie’s waist and she leans her head against mine.

“I love seeing you so happy,” I tell her.

She turns and faces me. “I want you to be happy too.”

“I am…”

She makes a face.

“I am,” I insist. “At least way more than I was in Texas, and more than when I first got here.”

“Are you liking your job? I haven’t been able to tell for sure.”

“I actually love it.”

“Really?” Her voice lifts with excitement.

“Stop worrying about me.”

She pulls me in closer. “You know we’ll never stop worrying about each other when things aren’t quite right. That’s what we do.”

“I know. And I’m grateful that I’ve got someone like you who loves me like that.” I swallow the lump in my throat as she puts her hand on my shoulder and squeezes.

“Always,” she says.

We both laugh when we fan our faces to keep from crying.

“See? There’s something in the Landmark water,” Sofie says.

“I’ve noticed that.” I dab my eyes and take a deep breath.

The space clears in front of the food, so I call Dakota over to pick out what she wants.

“There’s room at the table,” Grinny says.

“I think we can all fit if I just bring these chairs over,” Sofie says.

Once we’re all settled and eating, the wedding talk picks up again. We’ve each ordered at least two dresses—April has the most with four. Holly and Scarlett both have two, and we’ll return whatever we don’t wear…although it sounds like April and I will be the only ones returning anything.

“We found Dakota’s dress first. It was easy. I think it’ll be perfect,” I say. “Right?” I look over at Dakota and she nods, mouth full.

“Perfect,” she manages to get out. “I want to wear it every day.”

We laugh and I nod. “We need an alternative dress for her to wear in the meantime because, yeah…I have to remind her several times a day that the dress has to stay special for Auntie Sof’s wedding. But you do finally get to try it on today.”

“Girl, I don’t blame you,” Scarlett tells Dakota. “That’s how I feel about the one I think I’m keeping.”

“I have three dresses and I think I know which will be my favorite, but it’ll depend on if it goes with what everyone else picks out,” I say.

“Yeah, I definitely have different levels of sexy,” April says.
