“Hey.” He grins at me and it catches me off guard.

He said he’d be the same, but…how can he be after the night we had? And what I did after…

Theo takes Sofie’s hand and they walk toward everyone else gathered by the door. Wyatt falls into step next to me.

“Pretty girl, pretty dress,” he says, voice low.

I look up at him and his smile leaves me weak in the knees.

“Pretty mark I left on your chest,” he finishes.

I gasp, and he leans in and whispers in my ear, “Don’t worry. It’s barely noticeable. I just know the places I’ve been.”

I lean back, my eyes narrowing on him and he laughs, coming toward my ear again.

“I should be sorry, but I have to say, my mark looksreallygood on you.”

A choked laugh comes out of me, and I shove him back, pointing at him. “This is not being the same as you always are.”

He lifts a shoulder and smirks. “Maybe I was just trying to put you at ease. Or…this is me being the same I always am now that you’re single and I can say what I want.”

“Well, knock it off,” I say between my teeth.

I smile at the rest of the guys when we walk to where they’re waiting.

“Hey, everybody. Good morning,” I say, trying to move away from Wyatt, but he maneuvers next to me as we step outside.

“Okay, so…do I have this right? Your interpretation of thesameis me pretending last night never happened.” His tone is conversational, like we’re talking about the weather.

“Something a little more like that, yes.” I nod.

“Can’t do that. Did you read the rest of my text?”

I sputter, holding my hand up to argue with him, when Sofie turns to look at me. I smile and wave, my pageant skills coming out like second nature. Her brow creases as she studies Wyatt and me before turning around.

“I did read the rest of your text,” I whisper-shout. “And I was relieved that you were being an adult about it. I can see myinterpretationwas all wrong.”

He chuckles and I want to shake him.

“I’m being an adult about it, Marlow,” he says calmly. “I’m not in denial about what I feel for you. I loved every second of being buried deep inside of you. The taste of you is something I woke up thinking about. My only regret is not chasing you down the hall when you left. If I’d thrown you over my shoulder and licked the panic away, we could’ve woken up this morning and fucked without abandon the way we were meant to.”

PICKING A PERSONA

WYATT

A whimper escapes her lips and she places her hand over my mouth, her expression a mixture of anger and desire.

I kiss her hand and when she doesn’t move it, I flick my tongue across it and she drops it.

“Oh, you’re being an adult all right,” she huffs. “What was that you said about being able to pull back if I wasn’t ready?”

I grin and bend down until I’m in her face. I can almost taste her peppermint breath. “Every single thing we did last night felt like you were ready.”

“Ugh.” She rolls her eyes and tries to stalk away from me but halts when she nearly runs into Jamison.

“We’re here,” Scarlett sings.
