Besides knowing smirks from the guys to Wyatt, the only thing I had to deal with was extra tight hugs from Sofie and Scarlett, both of them saying something like, “You better spill the second we’re home!”

I shooed them away from me and laughed them off, trying to act like there was nothing to tell.

But now that we’re on the helicopter and Wyatt and I can’t keep our eyes open, I think any hope of playing that off went out the window. The noise, the excitement, the gorgeous scenery, and hanging out with our favorite people aren’t enough to keep us awake.

“Wake up, sleepyheads,” Scarlett sings sometime later.

I squint at her, not sure where I am. My body feels deliciously sore. I’m exhausted and when I look over at Wyatt, he stretches out and gives me a sleepy smile. The helicopter engine turns off and the quiet is jarring.

Theo glances at us and grins.

“Looks like a good time was had by all,” he says. “Thanks again for making this weekend happen, you guys.”

We all hug goodbye in the lobby of the resort, and Wyatt lingers with me. We walk out to the parking lot toward my SUV.

“You picking up Dakota or heading home for a while?” he asks.

“Yeah, I thought I’d go right over there.”

He nods and I’m torn—I don’t know what to do with myself. I hate to say bye, but I don’t want to assume that he wants to hang out more today…or that he’d want to spend the afternoon with Dakota and me when he’s obviously tired.

“Message me later if you want to hang out,” he says, seeming reluctant to leave me too. “Or if eight thirty is too early…”

“You’re welcome over anytime,” I say quietly.

“Yeah?” His eyebrows lift hopefully.

I nod. “Yeah. You’re kinda growing on me.”

He tugs me against him, and my stomach does that swoop thing it does every time he touches me.

“Kinda?” he says.

“Kinda really.”

He nods. “Okay. I can live with that.” He grins and leans in, kissing me, both hands on either side of my face.

It’s sweet and sexy, tame but so hot, and I want to pull him into my car and have my way with him.

His phone buzzes and he pulls away, making a face. “That’s work. I made the mistake of saying when I’d be back.” He kisses me again, and this time it’s quick. “I’ll check in with them and see what you’re up to later.”

I nod and he answers the phone as I get in my car and float away.

When I pull up to Grinny’s, Grinny and Dakota are waving a huge wand with massive bubbles surrounding them.

“Mama,” Dakota yells when I step outside.

She runs to me, her hair messy and the smile on her face so wide it makes my heart hurt in the best way.

“Hey, my Kota. Oof.” She barrels into me and I bend to pick her up, hugging her hard. “I love you. So happy to see your face.”

“I’m so happy to see your face too,” she says. “Look, Grinny and I are making these bubbles.”

“Amazing.” I set her down and walk toward Grinny.

She meets me halfway, her smile almost as big as Dakota’s, and we hug.

“Welcome back,” Grinny says.
