“Please,” I whisper.

“You sure you mean that?” he rasps.

“Oh, yeah, I’m sure,” I tell him emphatically.

He’s on his feet in seconds, bending down to lift me up like I weigh nothing. He groans again when my shirt rides up and his hands are on my bare skin.

“Did I already say I like this shirt?”

“Yeah.”

His grin is feral as we rush up the stairs.

“I’ll make you more hot chocolate later,” he says.

I laugh and he kisses it away, the hunger for each other taking over. He moves through his bedroom, setting me on my feet in front of the bed, his lips never leaving mine. His kisses make me dizzy, but he still keeps a little distance between us and I want more. I tug his shirt up and he pulls back, his hair messy from me holding onto it.

“So, when you saidplease maul you…were you saying you want to have sex with me? Or do you mean more of a make-out session…without some layers?” He tugs his shirt over his head and runs his thumb over my top lip.

I take a moment to appreciate the view.

“The first option,” I tell him, and then lean over and kiss his chest, my tongue swirling around his nipple.

He moans and the sound grounds me, knowing he’s feeling this pull between us too.

“You do the best things,” he whispers.

“I think I’ve found the secret to getting you to talk more.” I smile against his skin.

His hand grips my jaw and I look up at him.

“I don’t want you to regret me, Ruby.”

“That would never, everhappen,” I tell him.

He lifts my hand to his mouth and kisses my knuckles, his gesture chaste but the look in his eyes so far from it.

He bends slightly to reach the bottom of my shirt and lifts it slowly, like he’s unwrapping a present, but when he lifts it over my head, his expression is not what I was hoping for.

“Ruby.”

I point at his face. “Not quite what a girl wants to see when a guy looks at her breasts for the first time.”

He makes a sound with his mouth, his brows so furrowedin the center, I want to smooth away the crease. He grips my arms as he studies me.

“Of course, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” he says, offhandedly.

“No need to flatter me,” I tease.

His eyes flash to mine and his jaw tightens as he straightens, one hand dropping off of my arm and moving to my chin.

“I never flatter,” he says. “Understand?”

I blink up at him. “Okay.”

“You’rebeautiful, everything about you. I’ve thought it since the night I saw you in your wedding dress, and every day since. I think it even more right now. But your burns still look as painful as they did two weeks ago.”

I put my hands on his chest, still trembling with excitement to be touching him like this.
