“Wrong?” I repeat.
“I’m sorry. I’ve had too much to drink tonight. I was…please, forgive me. It won’t happen again.” He walks toward the door to the kitchen and stands there, looking back at me. “I swear to you it won’t.”
He says that like it’s a good thing. Like him promising to not touch me again is something Iwantto hear instead of the truth, which is,now that you’ve touched me, I’ll be craving it more than I already was.
I don’t have the first idea of what to say. For a second, I experienced sheer euphoria, and the next, it was snatched away from me.
So I say nothing, and he nods at me once more before turning and going inside the house, leaving me outside, numb and alone.
The next morning, I’m exhausted after a night of tossing and turning. There are a bunch of texts on my phone, but not a single one is from Sutton. I bite back my disappointment and scroll through them.

What does one wear to a football game? Asking for a friend.
Tomorrow night is the game and as promised if he won, Weston has tickets for everyone. I’m just glad it will be all of us.

Jamison and I bought Shaw jerseys! I think Jamison did it just to tease his brother, but Zac sent back a text saying he’s the biggest fan of Weston. What do you wear, Felicity?
I still can’t believe Jamison’s brother is Zac Ledger. I freaked when I found out and so did Weston when I told him. We’ve followed Zac’s career forever. There’s talk about him retiring. He won the Super Bowl last year and he’s had a great season this year too, but their defense just wasn’t quite there.

I need to go shopping before tomorrow night. I’m outgrowing my clothes a lot faster than I did with Dakota.

Are jeans and a sweater okay?
Anything you wear will be fine! Honestly, I embarrass my sister Olivia so bad because I try to match whatever uniform Weston’s wearing. So this week will be the white jersey and the teal pants with white and grey stripes. I even have the matching knee bands and a Mustangs jacket.

Will we get to meet your sister?
I’m not sure. I’ll text her and see if she’s coming.
I hesitate before texting Olivia. It’s been a while since we talked and she has a way of seeing through me. If anyone mentions me taking care of Owen in front of my family, I’ll act like it’s not a big deal that I’m helping with Sutton’s son. They don’t need to know the details about what I’m doing for Sutton, but Olivia is the one who will dig if she senses anything is off. I still need time to figure out the whole law school conversation.
My alarm goes off and I startle, tossing my phone across the bed and jumping up. I get ready and make an extra effort because as tense as I’m going to be around Sutton today and as angry I am that he said that perfect moment between us last night wasso wrong…I want to lookgood.
The surprise is once again on me.
When I get to the house, Grinny is there with Owen. They both turn and smile sweetly at me.
“Felicity,” Owen says, his sleepy eyes brightening when I get closer.
“What a nice surprise!” Grinny says. “Didn’t expect to see you on a Saturday morning. Sutton had to go in early this morning,” Grinny says.
