“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have carried you like that. I’ll carry you a different way.” He says it like it’s meant to solve something, but he doesn’t say what.

His voice sounds calmer and nicer than before. What just happened? I stare into his eyes for a moment. It’s as if he’s looking at me from a completely different perspective. What changed?

I look up at the sun, which has dipped well below the treeline. If carrying me can get us to the lodge faster, then so be it.

“Fine, do what you gotta do.”

He lifts me with both arms, my legs dangling from one side and my arms wrapped around his neck.

Now I can feel his chest and abs against me. He’s so muscular and fit. I’ve never been so close to someone this ripped before. It’s kind of nice. It’s like I’m his damsel in distress and he’s carrying me to safety.

Well, I guess that is kind of true, actually.

Even with my weight in his arms, he still practically glides over the jungle floor. Even when he has to climb over a log or a boulder, it doesn’t make him short of breath. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him panting or gasping for air.

Are all Kaleidians like this, or is he just a perfect specimen?

I don’t knowhow much ground we covered, but it felt like we were walking for hours. The jungle is much darker than before, and it’s hard to see more than 10 yards ahead.

Even though it’s nighttime, the jungle is a lot louder. I can hear birds and other animals sounding off every few seconds.

Finally, he sets me down. “We should make camp here.”

I look around, and we’re in a small clearing. There’s not much brush, and there are trees growing around us, almost like the walls of a house.

I lean against one of the trees as he goes to work. He rips off a branch with one twist and starts clearing the ground of fallen leaves and debris.

God, he must be so strong to rip it off like that. I can’t help but admire his gleaming muscles. Strands of moonlight pierce the canopy, illuminating his form. It’s at this moment I realize how long it’s been since I’ve been with anyone.

Once the area is clear, he goes off and finds a few dead branches and logs. He pulls them into the center. After gathering a handful of wood, he digs into the ground. He pulls out a knife-looking thing to help dig into the dirt.

Next, he puts some moss into the ground and covers it with some small sticks. He pulls another item from his belt and starts striking it with a rock. I can see the sparks as they splash over the pit.

After a few seconds, there’s a flame, and he leans in deep to blow air on it. I catch a glimpse of his perfectly chiseled ass. I find myself staring at it, when suddenly he leans back and stands up.

“Are you okay?” He asks.

My heart’s racing for some reason. I start playing with my air instinctively. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thank you for building a fire.” I have no idea what to say. Why am I so nervous?

“It’s going to get a little cold tonight. We’ll have to sleep close to the fire. I’ll build you a bed so you’re not on the ground.”

“I don’t mind sleeping on the ground,” I reply. “But will we need to snuggle with each other for warmth?”

He gives me a look. He wasn’t expecting that. “Only if you want to.”

“Do you think I need to? You’re the expert out here, not me.”

Suddenly, he turns to face me, then walks up to me. He wraps his big, muscular arms around me and pins me to his body. I wrap my arms around him and let myself feel his chest and abs.

After a second, he pulls back. What the fuck? I was enjoying that!

“You seem warm enough on your own. We don’t have to lay next to each other if you don’t want to.” He goes back to the fire to add more wood.

Part of me wants to tell him that I do want to sleep next to him. His chiseled features feel so great against my skin. I hold back for a second, but then my libido gets the better of me.

“I do want to lay next to each other,” I blurt out. He turns around and pauses for a second.

“Are you hungry?” He asks. Not the question I was expecting.
