She slides into the seat next to me, sitting sideways with one of her legs draped over my lap. She hands me a plate, a fork and a serviette.

“I chose cheesecake for dessert. Blueberry. It looks so good.”

I grab the back of her head and kiss her again. She is too beautiful for me to keep my hands off.

“Mm. Those ribs are good,” she says, licking her lips after our kiss.

She picks up her own rib and bites into it, grinning.

Halfway through our meal, with cartoons playing in the background, even though we are paying attention to the television, my phone rings.

I glance down at the screen, ready to decline the call. But then I see it is Arton.

“I am sorry, my love. This is an important call that I was waiting for.”

“It’s no problem. I will be here. The rest of the ribs might not be, though.” She reaches over and takes my plate from me so that I can stand up. I shake my head, smiling as I answer the phone.

“Arton, what can you tell me?”

“Tomorrow, I recon around three o’clock. I will be in touch with you to let you know once we have him and we are on the way to the docks, but we can ballpark for three. Is that alright?”

“That is perfect, thanks. I will hear from you tomorrow, then.”

“Yes, tomorrow. Have a good evening.”

“You too.”

I walk back into the living room.

“You have a meeting tomorrow?” she asks, wiping her hands on a serviette.

“Actually, my angel, you do.”

She sits up straight and tilts her head to the side, curious. I have her full attention.

I sit down with her again and take her plate out of her hand, placing on next to mine on the table.

“My love, tomorrow, at three o’clock, you are going to talk to your father.”

Her mouth drops open, and her eyes grow wide with shock.

“My father-”

“Yes, I have made all the arrangements.”

“How? He won’t want to talk to me. He will probably do everything in his power to avoid me like he has done my entire life.”

“Trust me, he will be open to talking to you. I have made sure of it.”

“Why did you do this for me? Don’t you have other more important things to worry about right now?”

“Nothing is more important than you. I love you, and I will do anything for you.”

Her eyes shine brightly with the threat of tears, but she blinks them away and leans forward to kiss me. “Thank you, Antonio. This means everything.”
