Thirty minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Seraphina has been told that she may not answer the door, so I have to be extra careful. She calls my name.

“I am coming, my love. It is our food.”

“Food. Oh my goodness, I just realized how hungry I am.” She sits up, dropping her book on the coffee table.

“Wait there,” I tell her as I take the trays from the man and kick the door closed behind him.

“I can help you carry, though. she moves to stand up.

“Angel, what did I tell you?”

She grins and sits down again. “Wait here.”

I carry the food out to the balcony and lay it out, then go back inside.

I hold out my hand toward her.

“My love, may I take you on a date?”

She places her hand in mine, and I pull her against my body. “Does it include dancing?” She grins.

“Of course it does.”

I twirl her around and dip her backward, watching her face light up and savoring the beautiful sound of her laughter.

I guide her outside to the balcony where our candlelight dinner awaits. Above us, the stars are shining brightly.

“Antonio, what in the world? When did you do this?”

“I am just grateful you were so into your book.” I laugh.

She jumps into my arms and kisses me, pressing her lips into mine. She slips her tongue into my mouth, and I pull her closer to me.

Then I hold her chair out for her and push it in behind her.

“I am surprised they let me into such a nice restaurant wearing this.” She laughs at her pink tracksuit.

“I have never seen you look more elegant or more beautiful.”

She rolls her eyes, brushing her hair away from her face, trying to tuck the loose strands into her messy bun.

“Funny,” she says.

I grab the edge of her chair and pull her closer to me.

“I am serious, my angel. Every day, you get more beautiful to me.”

She leans against me, grinning. Then, out of the blue, she picks up a spoonful of sauce and pressed it onto my shirt.

“Excuse me?” I say in shock.

She grins. “I can’t have you looking so sexy while I am wearing a tracksuit.”

I grab a handful of prawns soaked in lemon butter, and she screams, trying to dart away from me, but I grab her arm and rub the sticky mess into her hair.

She rolls off her chair, laughing so hard she can breathe.

I fall off my chair, trying to hold on to her, and land lying on top of her.
