The door clicks, and she pushes it open, stepping inside with wide eyes, trying to take in everything at once.

The grand entrance hall doesn't disappoint, and I grin as I watch her spinning in the center.

“What do you think?”

“It's incredible. I can’t believe how open and spacious it is.”

I have had almost all of my father’s belongings removed and put in storage. The walls have been painted, and all the lighting has been modernized. I point out the new features and the things that I have already changed as we walk deeper into the house.

“I want to redo the bathrooms and the kitchen as well, but of course, this is your home too, so you need to choose designs with me. Then, once you have looked around today, we have to go shopping and choose sofas, beds, carpets, standing lamps, statues, art - anything your heart desires.”

I take her hand and pull her toward me.

“I want this to feel like home for you, Seraphina. I want this place to reflectus, the next generation, a new start and a new era.”

Seraphina laughs as I pull her from room to room, showing her every part of her new home. My heart is so happy, watching her face, bright with excitement over all of it. Everything has workedout for us; I can't believe everything that we have been through to get to where we are now.

After a tour, we sit down on the living room floor to make a list of the things we think we need.

“Right over there. That is where I want it.” She points to the space beneath the window.

“Blue?” I say, sounding horrified.

“Yes, a blue sofa, right over here?” She grins.

“Like, a gray-blue color?”

“No, like a bright primary blue color.”

She flicks through her phone, looking for a photograph of this monstrous blue sofa she is trying to convince me to get. When she holds the phone out toward me to show me, I roll my eyes back with relief. He rolls his eyes back with relief. “That isn’t even close to blue. That’s stone gray.”

She packs up, laughing. “I know. I just wanted to see if you would have agreed to a blue one.”

“Unfortunately, I would have. Because I would do anything for you. Have you not worked that out by now?”

I push her over so that she is lying on her back on the floor, and I move onto her with my body pressed against hers, pinning her to the ground. She grins up at me, and I press my lips against her mouth, slipping my tongue inside her. We kiss, enjoying the moment, enjoying everything.

When I stop, I pull her back into a sitting position.

“Do you want to go shopping?”

“Yep,” she replies. “I'm so excited to choose new things, our things, to make this space our own.”

“Me too, my little bird. I’ll have the driver bring the car around.”

The entire day, we roam from designer boutiques to custom furniture shops, and we have so much more fun than I could have expected.

We argue over some items and laugh at others. We seem to have the same taste in things, though, which is very good. All the furniture and items we have chosen will be delivered over the next few days.

And those days are filled with joyful chaos.

Seraphina loves bossing the designers around, making them move things from one corner to another to see how it would look. She has a flair for interior decorating that impresses me, and but the space becomes more and more our home.

Last week, my grand piano arrived, and we had it placed in the music room, where I can now relax and meditate by playing. Seraphina sits on the high back sofa by the window, while she reads and listens to me playing.

After a few weeks of mayhem and laughter, our home is almost fully completed.

Seraphina arrives back after a brief shopping trip to find the perfect piece for the corner of our entrance foyer, and when she walks in, I take her hand and lead her out into the back garden.
