“I'm so sorry about that, my love. My meeting ran longer than expected, but of course, as a professional stalker, I get to you in time.” He raises one eyebrow, smirking at me.
The waitress looks between us, smiling at the playful conversation we are having.
“I’d like the steak, and she will have,..” he waits for me to decide.
“I will have the Thai green curry.”
The waitress nods and heads off to arrange our food.
“Bumping into you like this has made my day.” He reaches across the table and rests his hand on mine.
“Are you sure you weren’t stalking me? I might like the idea." My eyes sparks of mischief. When he replies, his voice is low and dark.
“Seraphina, if you want to be hunted, I will most happily oblige. But I can't be held responsible for what happens when I sink my claws into you.”
My heartbeat rapidly, sending hot currents through my body. I bite my lip and try to hide the genuine rush of lust that surges in my blood.
He grins. Saw through me.
“I'm glad I bumped into you, though, sincerely,” he says, leaning back in his chair, his long legs brushing against mine underneath the table. “I got some news.”
“So do I, but you go first.”
“I will travel to New York soon; My father’s lawyer has contacted me. I need to be present for the reading of his will.”
“I thought you lost contact with your father.”
“I didn’t. But he left instructions with the law firm. I have to be there.”
“When are you leaving?” I sound disappointed at the idea of him going. I think it is the fact he can just hop on a place and fly there at a whim while I have to take a job, doing something I'm not even interested in, to scrape my way there.
“In about two weeks. Will you miss me when I’m gone?” His eyes are narrow and focused on my mouth.
“I will, but not for too long.” I grin.
“Mm. Is that so? You said you had news as well. What is it?”
“I got an offer today from one company I applied. I'm heading to New York in four weeks, then work.”
He watches my face,
“Come with me?”
“What?”
“Come with me to New York. You will get there earlier than needed, but you can fly with me.”
“I can’t, Antonio. The company is paying for my flights and besides, I don’t have anywhere to stay until I start working.” I shrug; as much as I want to go with him, I'mnot paying for my own flights and probably can’t negotiate much with them when they book.
“I'm taking my private jet. You can fly with me. You don’t have to worry about accommodation either. Just come with me. We can spend some time together. I have been really enjoying getting to know you now.”
My thoughts churn with all the possibilities. I will get to New York two weeks earlier, so I will have enough time to get an apartment before work starts. I can even save a little money. If I find my way there, perhaps the company credit airfare toward my accommodation. It will give me a little more leeway while I settle in there.
Besides, if I go there with Antonio, maybe I will meet his family and get into the right crowd.
“Actually, I might just take you up on that offer.”
His face brightens with a massive smile.
