I'm still watching the mayhem. Learning who each person is. Mentally taking notes on who I need to watch out for. Unfortunately, it seems that I need to watch out for every singleone of them except for Rebecca, who keeps glancing in my direction, looking stressed and embarrassed.

the lawyer, Blake Maritzio, stands up as well and shouts to be heard over everyone else.

“Can wepleaseall just calm down?”

I feel like he needs a whistle and a handful of red cards to toss at people when they step out of line.

The room falls silent for a moment as everyone stares at him.

“Please, if everyone would take their seats, we can address the concerns one at a time in acivilizedmanner.”

He has been working with the family for many years; otherwise, I doubt someone would let him get away with speaking.

Lucas, stands up, a gruff-looking man with gray hair, a cropped beard and dark, menacing eyes.

“How do we know he is who he says he is?”

“Antonio provided full identification when he entered the building, Lucas.”

“Oh, please, we know how easily that can be faked.”

A younger man stands up, one of my cousins.

“Why should he even be included in the will?” Lucas’s son Arton snaps. “He knows nothing about this family. He deserves nothing.”

The attorney raises both hands. “It's not our place to dictate Massimo’s wishes. We don’t even know what the will says yet, but whatever it says is what we will follow.”

“We want to dispute the will.” A woman who has otherwise been quiet smirks a comment toward me.

“How can you dispute what has not even been announced yet?” the attorney sighs.

“He would not have been called here if the will did not involve him. We know Massimo was obsessed with his son, his only heir. It's too a far stretch to assume he has left everything to this -outsider,” Lucas snarls.

The room erupts again as everyone speaks at once.

The attorney looks at me with an apologetic silence in his expression.

I stand.

“Thank you all for your time. I don’t feel that this meeting is progressing or serving any purpose.”

“Nobody gives a fuck what you think.”

I nod toward my uncle. “Lucass, I'll see you at reading the will. I hope you all have a wonderful evening. Blake, thank you for your time.”

I turn to leave as the noise explodes behind me. How dare I walk out? How dare I speak to them this way? Who do I think I'm? I ignore all of it and push the glass door open. When it swings closed behind me, I take a deep breath and walk away. That was a disaster.

I have no one on my side. Rebecca seems quiet and withdrawn, not saying much to defend me. The rest of them are gunning for my throat, wanting blood.

I'm questioning my choice about coming here. Is this what I want?

On my way back to the hotel, I called Kalo.

“Antonio, how is New York?”

“I'm booking you a flight. I need you here. Just for now. I need someone I can trust.”

“That bad?”
