Before he reached the bus stop, he pulled out his phone and texted Gray and Mason.Went to the Bull City Youth Center and signed up to volunteer. Might teach cooking classes there.

Awesome.Mason texted back.

Jack was on the bus before he heard from Gray.Perfect. We should celebrate tonight.

The simple comment made him grin. Gray’s idea of celebrating usually involved restraints and a very sore ass. Jack still wasn’t up for their more intense games, but he hoped Gray would at least admit Jack was ready for his lovers to fuck him. Jacking off together and having his lover’s mouths wrapped around his cock had been incredible, so much better than those weeks of never even being held, but he craved more now, much more.

Jack took a nap when got home. His trip to the shelter constituted a major excursion to his recovering body. When he woke up, he got to work making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Once the sauce was simmering, he formed the meatballs and put them in the refrigerator so their flavors could meld, then he curled up on the couch and chose an episode ofStar Trek: The Next Generationfrom his streaming video queue. He laughed at himself as it started. He’d never imagined himself becoming a Trekkie, but Mason had pulled him right into his geeky world, and Jack had no regrets. He figured he had time to watch a few episodes before he needed to do more dinnerprep. Mason had to work late, and Gray rarely got home at a reasonable time anymore. He was quickly learning just how grueling a detective’s hours could be, but before he got comfortable, he heard the sound of a key in the door.

Gray and Mason both walked in grinning mischievously. Had they been conspiring?

“I thought you had to work through the dinner rush,” Jack said to Mason.

He smiled. “Things have been dead today, and Elizabeth let me go early.”

“What about you?” Jack asked turning to Gray. “I can’t believe Thornton let you go early.”

“I’ve been working more hours than anyone should for weeks. I told him I had something important to do tonight, and I left before he could bitch at me. He’s happy with what I’ve done, and he’ll cut me some slack if I don’t make this a habit. I told you we were going to celebrate.”

The heat in Gray’s eyes got Jack’s heart pounding. “Dinner’s not ready yet.”

“Oh, really. How long do we have?”

“The sauce needs to simmer for a while. Maybe hours.”

Mason grinned. “I got a snack at work. I could wait hours.”

“The something special I had planned for you,” Gray said, looking Jack up and down like he was ready to devour him. “It’s time.”

Jack swallowed hard. He’d expected Gray to be reluctant to fulfill his fantasies, but now he was concerned Gray would push him too far.

“Um…Gray.”

Gray pressed a finger to his lips. “Hear me out.”

Jack nodded, spellbound by the intensity in Gray’s gaze.

“You’ve been spending too much time thinking, worrying. You need to spend more time feeling.”

“I want to. I want to surrender to you, but I can’t even sit up without rolling over first and using my hands to push me up. I don’t think you can?—”

“Jack.” Gray’s harsh tone made Jack suck in his breath. “I know what you can handle. I will not take you too far.”

Jack bit his lip and nodded. “You never have.”

“And I won’t now. I’ll expect you to use your safeword if anything I do hurts your chest. We’ll either work around it or we’ll stop.”

A shiver ran through Jack. Gray never disappointed him, but he was afraid, more so than he’d been since he’d first agreed to let Gray help him find out what surrendering could really mean.

Mason moved to stand next to Gray. “Can I help him loosen up?”

Gray nodded. “As long as you don’t let him come.”

“Yes, sir,” Mason said. His face was flushed, his eyes dark. He’d obviously been anticipating this moment for a while.

As Mason reached out and skimmed a hand over Jack’s torso, he remembered a time months ago, when Mason had been asunsure as Jack felt now. That night, Jack had been the one to help him forget about being nervous. The three of them had come so far since then, but Jack worried he was taking them backward.

“Stop thinking,” Mason said. “That’s what this night is about—you turning off and letting us give you pleasure. Yes, you have decisions to make, but you’ve got to let go for a while before the stress eats you up.”
