“Talk,” Jack said as he pulled out the alcohol pad.
“Not much else to say. I punched him back, then proceeded to—holy fucking fuck that stings. Goddamnit, get away from me.”
Jack grinned. “Aww. Does my wittle baby need another kiss?”
“Fuck you.”
“Later. Right now you need Neosporin.”
He squeezed a dab of the gel on his finger and spread it over Gray’s cut.
Gray winced but he didn’t curse him anymore.
“You kicked his ass, didn’t you?”
Gray grinned. “Yeah, I did.”
“Are you going to get suspended?” Jack tried to keep his voice, even, casual.
“No. O’Connell saw it all, he ran to get Thornton. When he broke us up, he told Thompkins to get the hell out and not bother coming back for his shift tomorrow. Then he ripped me a new one and reminded me how to handle assholes, but that’s the worst I got.”
Jack failed to suppress his smile. “Thompkins really had it coming.”
“I hate that you weren’t there to get in a lick or two of your own.”
Jack nodded. “Me too.”
Gray reached for Jack, pulling him down for a kiss, but just as Jack opened and Gray’s tongue slid over his lips, his phone squawked like an old-fashioned air horn.
“Ignore it,” Gray said, tugging on Jack once again.
“Can’t. It’s Henry.”
“The kid you’re working with?”
Jack nodded as he glanced down at the text from Henry.
Wondering if you have time to hang out tonight
No mention of what was up. Was he really just wanting to chat, or had something happened? Either way, Jack wasn’t going to turn him down.
Sure. Be there in twenty.

“You need to go, don’t you?” Gray asked.
Jack nodded. “He’s reaching out to me. I can’t say no, not when we’re just getting to know each other.”
Gray pulled him in for a quick kiss. “I wouldn’t want you to.”
“You going to be okay?”
Gray squeezed Jack’s shoulders and then released him. “Yeah, I’ll be fine. Just come back as soon as you can.”
“I will.”
“Good, because we’re picking up where we left off. When will Mason be home?”
