“Baby, I’ve been hoping you’d reach this place for almost a year, so yeah, I’m good with it.” Gray grabbed Jack’s hips and hauled Jack against him. The kiss they shared wasn’t the storm of lust Jack expected though. Instead, Gray touched Jack’s soul with a simple brush of his lips.

When Gray pulled back to look at him, Jack stared, transfixed. Gray’s love was so clear in his gaze that Jack’s heart banged against his chest. The air around them crackled with anticipation. What would it be like to let the world know he loved Gray, to let everyone know they both loved Mason and he loved them? Beautiful, that’s what it would be. Hard as hell, but beautiful all the same.

Jack smiled. “I love you.”

Gray gave him another soft kiss. “I love you, too.”

Jack turned in Gray’s arms, and Gray rested his chin on Jack’s shoulder as he texted Mason. Gray nuzzled him, sending a shiver through him and wreaking havoc with his thumb-typing abilities, but he finally got the message sent. While they waited for a response, Gray licked and nibbled his way down Jack’s throat. Jack couldn’t help but thrust back against him until the hard line of Gray’s erection shoved against the crack of his ass.

“Want you,” Gray murmured against the curve of his shoulder. “Want to fuck you. It’s been too long.”

“Please.”

“Can’t risk hurting you.”

“I’m okay. Really.”

His phone buzzed, startling them both.

Mason’s response.Yes. Please. I’m so ready.

Gray released Jack. “Let’s go.”

Jack swayed without Gray to anchor him. “But?—”

“Later.”

Jack drew in a shaky breath, willing his cock to calm down, but the full force of what he was doing had hit him. “I’m scared. I know this is right, and I hate myself for being afraid, but I am.”

“Don’t you dare think you’re the only one.”

“Really?”

“Hell yes. Don’t even pretend that after all the time you’ve known me you still think I’m that tough.”

Jack grinned. “But you’ve wanted this for so long.”

“That doesn’t mean I’m not anxious about it.”

Jack nodded. “I’m probably fucking up any chance I had of getting my job back.”

“Not with Marsh and Thornton going to bat for you.”

“Why is Thornton supporting me?”

Gray looked away, which told Jack he was hiding something. “He’s got an interest. I’ll tell you more when I can.”

Jack frowned at his lover. After Gray had held back about applying for the detective position, he was especially wary of any secrets between them, but he trusted Gray. And he’d kept secrets of his own about not being sure he still wanted to be a cop.

“I promise there’s nothing sinister going on. I want tonight to be about the three of us.”

Jack nodded, pushing his misgivings away. “You’re right. Let’s go out ourselves.”

Gray indicated that Jack should go ahead of him, and, as Jack passed, Gray slapped his ass. “Just remember. Wearegoing to finish what we started.”

That promise was enough to give Jack the courage to walk out of the door toward his future.

Jack entered Nathan’s for the second time that night. Gray felt warm and solid behind him. When they were both inside, he slipped his hand into Gray’s larger one. Mason waved to themfrom the bar and held up a finger, indicating he’d join them in a minute.
