I twist my hair into a bun and take a quick shower, half expecting it to be interrupted by a tall, muscular baseball pitcherfor a spontaneous round of morning sex. But I’m undisturbed as I wash my body with Corey’s woodsy-scented soap and dry off with the blue towel I found in the linen closet. I walk back into the bedroom. Not wanting to wear the clothes from the plane, I open Corey’s dresser drawer and find a nondescript black shirt. I pull it over my head. The bottom hits just above my knee.

Satisfied that I’m sufficiently covered in case Corey and I may not be alone, I venture out of the room.

I turn the corner of the hall and look out into the open main living space, wondering if Corey has a housekeeper to keep this massive home clean. I see Corey standing behind the kitchen island. He’s in front of a fancy coffee maker, scowling at the appliance.

“There you are.” I step around the island and enter the kitchen. “What are you doing?”

“I’m trying to brew you a latte,” he says over his shoulder, “but I can’t figure out how to make this damn thing steam milk.”

I reach his side and look at the many buttons and levers on the machine. It looks intimidating. “Is there a manual?”

“I think I threw it out, but I can google the instructions.” He reaches for his phone.

I place a staying hand on his arm. “What’s that over there?” I point to a coffee mug with steam wafting off the top.

“Just a black coffee.”

“Do you have milk?”

“I do.”

“Then I’ll take a black coffee.” I lean forward and kiss his shoulder. “Please.”

He purses his lips in disappointment. “I wanted to surprise you with breakfast in bed.”

“That’s really sweet.” I walk to the fridge and take out the quart of milk from the top shelf. I return to his side and kisshis shoulder again, placing the milk on the counter. “Thank you. And good morning, by the way.”

The corner of his mouth lifts. “Good morning.” He leans down and kisses my lips. “How did you sleep?”

“Like a rock,” I admit. “Your bed is super comfortable.”

“Are you sure it wasn’t the workout I put you through?” He grins roguishly.

I lift a brow. “Don’t you mean the workoutIputyouthrough?”

A laugh rumbles from his throat. “Maybe...”

We had sex a total of three times last night, and Corey managed to draw an orgasm from me every single time. I’d never experienced that before, but I’m not complaining. Not at all. Though, I do feel a little dehydrated. With that thought, I return to the fridge and grab a water bottle to go with my coffee.

When I turn back around, Corey is watching me with a thoughtful smile.

“What?” I ask, tucking a stray hair behind my ear.

“You’re really pretty in the morning.”

I flush. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Here’s your coffee.” He hands me the cup that’d been sitting on the counter. Then, he places a new mug under the fancy coffee maker and presses a button.

I add milk to the coffee then move to sit on the other side of the island, facing the kitchen. “What are your plans for today?”

Corey removes a plate covered with a paper towel from the microwave. The smell of bacon increases. “If you aren’t busy, I’d like to spend the day with you.”

My stomach flutters. “I’m not busy. What do you have in mind?”

“It’s a surprise.” He puts the plate on the island before setting a clean plate in front of me. “Can I interest you in some microwavable bacon?”

I chuckle. “Don’t mind if I do.”
