I quickened my pace, tension rolling over my shoulders.

It’s nothing, there’s no one, I kept thinking. Unease continued to settle deep in my gut, a weight I couldn’t cut loose. My imagination got the best of me as the dim street lights created dancing shadows along the building walls and the ground. Even my own shadow turned on me, my nails appearing longer and more sinister.

Just around that corner, I told myself as I made it off the pier. All I had to do was make it to the end of this road, and thecar would be there.I would be safe. The thought invaded my mind, increasing the anxiety. I was safe, right? I had always felt safe walking this path.

But there was something different tonight. Something…wrong.

As I crossed the small alleyway, pain spread across my scalp.

A large hand wrapped into my hair, tugging hard.

My phone dropped from my hands, a scream on the edge of my lips. But the glint of sharp metal held in a large, meaty hand stopped me in my tracks.

He held the knife up to my throat, my heart sinking in my chest. “Shut up, bitch, or I’ll kill you,” he threatened and dragged me into the alleyway like a rag doll.

Every muscle in my body froze as the scent of him invaded my nostrils. Cigarettes and that same musty, stale odor from before. This close, the underlying fishy smell was more apparent. My stomach twisted into knots as he dragged the knife down my chest.

“I’ve been watching you, you know,” Nate whispered into my ear. He nibbled my flesh in between his teeth before dragging his tongue along my neck.

A single tear fell down my cheek, my eyes fixated on the darkness in the alleyway. I stared wide-eyed into the pitch-black alleyway, my heart racing with terror.

The overpowering stench of rotting garbage and stale urine filled my nostrils. With how deep he dragged me, no one would see me if they passed by.

I opened my mouth to scream, but my voice was paralyzed by fear, leaving me utterly helpless in his grasp.

Nate grabbed me by the shoulders and spun me around, slamming my back against the rough brick wall. The gritty surface scraped against me, leaving a burning sensation in its wake. The pain was enough to wake me, a scream finally tearingfrom my lips. Nate’s twisted smile only seemed to grow wider as he savored my fear. The whole scene felt like a nightmare come to life, leaving me feeling trapped and helpless in the face of Nate’s aggression.

The sharp glint of the knife caught the light of the moon as he pointed it at me once more. “I’ve seen you seduce man after man,” he growled, his words dripping with venom. “I heard you in the bathroom, little whore.” The words stung, making me want to crawl inside myself and never come out.

Quinton used those words…little whore. They were two sides of the same coin, as different as day and night. With Quinton, they had ignited a fierce, all-consuming desire within me. But with Nate, they sparked only fear, an icy terror that crawled up my spine, stabbing into me.

I stumbled forward, pins and needles weighing on my fingertips and teeth. My heart raced, pounding against my chest desperate for escape. I bolted forward, willing my body from its frozen state.

Beads of cold sweat formed on my forehead, trickling down my temple and mixing with the tears stinging my eyes. Every breath I took was strained and shallow, the air around me thick. Terror consumed me as the only thought in my mind was that I was going to die.

Nate was a beast compared to me—larger, faster, and stronger. He tackled me to the ground, his weight crushing me.

I writhed and screamed, trying to break free from his grip. The sound of my own panicked breathing filled my ears as I struggled against him. The scent of dirt and sweat occupied my nostrils as I fought for my life.

He flipped me over onto my back.

My body shook with terror as his hand clamped over my mouth, stifling my cries. My left eye focused on the knife, mere inches away and sending a shiver down my spine.

“I enjoy a little fight,” he said, rubbing the scratch I landed on his face. “But, you’ll break…they all do.” He leaned forward, pressing his lips against mine.

The bitter taste of beer accosted me. I pushed at him, forcing him away, but he pressed my hands down. He pulled a piece of rope from his pocket, tying my wrists together. I struggled against the bonds, trying hard to get him to stop.

“What is it with you upper end whores thinking they are so much better than everyone?” He spit onto my face. “You aren’t better than me.” His hand with the knife moved to the buckle of his pants, undoing them. The sound of the metal reverberated in my ears.

This was it…I thought, fear and helplessness mixing in my chest. I wasn’t able to move, my hands were tied to one another, and this man had pinned me to the floor.

“Help!” I screamed loud, the piercingness of it echoed off the walls.

Nate turned his fiery stare back to me, covering my mouth again with his disgusting palm.

“Shut it before I cut the tongue out of your pretty little mouth.” He shifted on top of me, tugging my skirt up as he situated himself between my thighs.

I kicked my legs, but it was useless. Tears welled in my eyes, blurring the scene.
