The more time I spent with the girl, the more I wanted to never leave her side. The more time I spent with her, the moreI entertained the idea of getting out. Our payments were almost done to Samuel, and maybe after that I could just…disappear. Audry and I could run off together and leave hotels, murder, and crime families behind us.

“So where would you like to go, M’lady?”

She stirred at my side, opening one eyelid. “Funny, funny, Mister. Butyouwanted the date, soyouplan it.”

“Oh, so you don’t want to go on a date with someone as dashing as me?” I said, fake appalled. The setting sun cast a warm glow across the room.

A blush stretched across Audry’s cheeks, her nose scrunching. “That isn’t what I said.”

“So youdowanna go on a date with me?” I poked her side.

She squealed, and a sweet giggle filled the air. “No, I never said you weredashing,”she said, her body jolting as I prodded her side again.

“Someone is ticklish.”

“No,” she complained. But it didn’t matter. A laughing fit exploded as I fought her down, tickling her side.

“Stop,” she cried between laughs. “Kai, no.”

“I’ll yield when you admit it. You think I’m dashing!”

“Fine!” Her giggle interrupted the sentence as she tried to squirm away from me. “You’redashing.”

I stopped, falling to her side. Both our faces were red, reflected back on us from the mirror hanging above our heads. She stared at me with a wonder I thought she would never have after what she went through.

A pang of sadness erupted in my chest, my face falling.Angel.

“What happened?” she asked, her fingers drawing lines on my chest.

I opened my mouth, ready to spill my secrets, when a loud knock came at the door.

Audry rushed to her feet, alarmed, before I could get to mine.

As the door lock beeped, my heart thundered. Our moment crashed down around us, the intimacy lost. From the mirror on the ceiling, I could see the door.

Two large men bound through it, their shirt pockets embroidered with the golden badge etched in behind the Hotel Santora logo. The air around me grew colder as they filled the room with their presence. Audry moved to meet them, shaking her head at me to stay behind.

“Audry, are you okay?” an older man walked in, with features similar to Audry’s.

“Fine, Dad.” She took a step forward, out of the small alcove hiding the bed and, in theory, still hiding me.

As I glanced at the mirror on the ceiling, wanting to keep an eye on Audry, the piercing stare of Audry’s father met mine.Shit, not the best way to meet the parents.

“Charles, Xavier, give us a moment please,” he instructed his goons, his tone cold now. The two security guards left the room, the door closing with an echo.

“Dad?” Audry crossed her arms, tilting her head.

“Come out here. Now!” he yelled toward me, his eyes glaring in the mirror.

Audry glanced nervously before crossing her arm. “I’m an adult, Dad.”

“An adult inmyhotel,” he said.

I stepped out, moving behind Audry.

“Yourhotel?” she countered, lifting a brow.

“We’ve had this conversation, Audry. And from the looks of things…” he paused, glancing at me with narrowed eyes. “You have learned nothing. Your…yourpromiscuousways show no bounds as they continue onward with no intent on stopping.”
