“Want to know what?” He slammed his fists down. “That some chick I fucked back in high school decided to become a pig? Nah, not important.” He shook his head.

“What’s the drama now?” Liam said, walking into the room. He ran a towel over his wet hair, glancing around the tense room.

Logan looked at me before turning back to his sandwich. “Kai doesn’t know how to relay important information.”

“Logan doesn’t know how to handle ‘big feelings,’” I snapped back.

“There are no ‘feelings’ between us. There never was,” he protested. But there was no denying he was hurt. His hand twitched at his side as he glanced at the discarded business card.

“Do you two want a room or something? Y’all are fighting like two little girls,” he said.

“Are you going to tell him?” I said.

Logan sighed. “Audry was interrogated by a detective today.” He stared hard at me. “See, that’s how you relay important information without all the useless fluff.”

Liam looked between us, his forehead wrinkling.

“The detective was none other than Maddison McKenzie,” I added for him.

“Like, Mads?” Liam asked, taken aback. “Well, shit.”

“Yeah, so you know, there’s that bomb today. I wonder what tomorrow’s will be,” Logan added.

I furrowed my brows, a very far-fetched idea forming. “Does Mads know where…well…? Do you think she could’ve moved the body?”

Logan’s eyes filled with rage. “I doubt Mads—I meanDetectiveMaddison—decided to move a dead body that she literally gains no benefit from.”

“But, is it possible?” Liam asked.

Logan licked his lips, wiping his hands on a towel. He placed it down calmly. “Sure. I guess, in some far out there universe, it’s possible.”

“No, you came up with that list with her,” I said, pointing at him. “After Angel.”

Both men looked at me, amazed I said her name without shutting down, punching something, or looking like I would. I decided to ignore it and push forward.

“She wouldn’t do that to us.” Logan shook his head. “No.”

“But another cop might?” Liam suggested, rubbing his chin. “There are always dirty cops. Maybe they moved the body.”

Logan stood up, the barstool falling out from under him. “No.” He shook his head. “No. Maddie wouldn’t have spilled that secret, no.”

“You guys didn’t end on the best terms,” I whispered.

Logan glared at me. The fiery rage visibly threatened to consume him. “No.”

“How are you so sure?” Liam crossed his arms.

“Because if she spilled that, she would be turning herself in. She may be a cop now and maybe a little reckless back then. But the one thing she never was—was stupid. She is fiercely intelligent, if you don’t remember.” He let the words sink in. “So, no. She wouldn’t have shared a list of the best places to dump a body with anyone. Especially anothercop.”

Liam sighed, “Okay,” then nodded. “But that doesn’t change the fact the body was found, and somehow they have Audry in the crosshairs.”

“Do you think Samuel knows yet?” I asked, frustrated she wasn’t by my side right now.

“If he doesn’t, he will soon.”

I tapped my finger on my chin. “Mads might not put her name in the report. Audry is a Santora, after all, unless the lead was solid…I don’t think any police department with dirty cops running around would want that sort of press.”

“We will find out soon if she does,” Liam said. “In the meantime, why don’t you keep your distance?”
