“Leave me alone,” I said, getting up to slam the door. I felt like a child under his investigation, guilty about my secrets.

“If this is about yesterday…" Logan’s lips formed into a tight line. “I’m not going to say I’m sorry for saying it, but I’m sorry that it hurt.”

“That is the worst apology I’ve ever heard.” Anger continued roaring to life. My heart was raging thunder in my ears.

Logan nodded once. “Just let her go, man.”

Rage blinded me. In the next moment, Logan was staggering back, his hand rubbing his jaw. My hand hurt, the sting of the punch vibrating my bone.

Logan rushed me, throwing me into the hallway. We threw jab after jab, rolling onto the ground, wrestling. The sound of our fists connecting with flesh echoed around the empty space. My back hit against the staircase. The immediate need to roll into a ball invaded my cells. I coughed through the pain, jabbing my fist wherever it would connect.

“What the hell!” Liam yelled.

He and Carson pulled us apart. Liam’s fingers dug into my shirt, slamming me into the wall. I struggled against him, wanting to continue making Logan hurt. If I was going to be in pain, he would be too. It was only fair. He’d wormed his way into my head, wanting me as miserable as his sorry ass.

Carson muttered quick words at Logan, who glared at me, his hardened stare enough to burn me to ashes.

“What the fuck is going on?” Liam asked.

I wiped the blood from my lip with the back of my bruised hand. Liam’s hold on me loosened slightly.

“It’s about fucking Audry, it’s always about that girl recently,” Logan said.

Carson placed her hand on his chest, gently pushing him back.

“You are such a jealous little bitch,” I spat at him.

“At least I know what my priorities are,” he screamed back, not daring to fight against Carson.

I shook my head. “It’s your fault,” I muttered beneath my breath.

“What’s his fault?” Liam asked.

I shrugged Liam off of me, not making another move for Logan. Even though I wished to make him continue to bleed, the physical wounds would heal, and I still wouldn’t have Audry.

I moved onto the couch, leaning back. The adrenaline faded and now all I was left with was a pounding headache and bruises. “Audry and I are done,” I said, closing my eyes.

“Done?” Carson asked.

“Done.”

The room settled, and so did the stupidity I had seeping into my flesh. There I was, with the people I was always the strongest with, about to break down over a girl. I wouldn’t be the one to turn our little hangout into a sewing circle where we cried out our feelings.

“Logan’s right,” I said, trying to convince myself.

“About what?” Carson asked, no doubt shooting Logan an equally violent look.

“I’m no good for her. If you love something, let it go right.” The words left my mouth before my mind could comprehend them.Love.Is that what this was?

“Well, if you love her that much to fight Logan over it, why didn’t you ask her to marry you instead of breaking up with her?” Carson jabbed. She meant it as a joke, but the words sunk into the room like a vampire. I opened my eyes, leaning forward. The room fell heavy as each of us glanced at one another.

Liam stood up, running a hand through his hair. His green eyes narrowed at the wall, focusing far away. “But that would solve it.”

I shook my head. “No.” I couldn’t believe I was that stupid. “That wouldn’t solve it.”

“What?” Logan perked up, still rubbing his jaw from the punch I threw.

“If you married Audry, she would no longer be a Santora. She would be a Widow, or at least under their domain…" Liam said, his eyes wide. “There would be no consequence to her killing Nate.”
