He still likes to create trouble, though, when I’m not around. I get letters asking for him to behave better. There’s really nothing I can do but scold him. Then he turns the tables on me with that silver tongue of his.

My cheeks turn red when I remember every failed attempt. There’s no stopping his chaotic ways, and I’ll just have to idly watch. I just hope that he’ll reel back a little bit once our baby’s born.

Then again, he can pass off those traits to our child.

There’s a knock on the door, and Asiina comes in holding my veil. She’s a maid Carus appointed to me. She’s really kind, and we get along well.

She exclaims in approval when she sees my appearance. “My lady, you look amazing!”

I bashfully smile. “Thank you, Asiina. And I told you to call me Shana. I’m still not part of this house yet.”

She shakes her head and settles the veil on a chair.

“It doesn’t matter. You are my lord’s mate. That’s all that matters. Now, shall I help with your hair?”

I nod, defeated. I’m still getting used to the loss of my previous title. However, Carus still nurtures my need to paint. He even dedicated another bedroom to it. When a painting is finished, he hangs it up in the great hall for everyone to see.

It’s another sweet side of him. It even takes the elders by surprise given his reputation. The transition from the temple to his home wasn't as hard, thanks to him.

Asiina places the veil with white flowers on my head, per Carus’s request. She then turns me toward the mirror for thefinal look. Though I left the temple, I can still feel the serenity of wearing all white.

“Do you think he’ll like it?” I ask, choking up.

She pats my shoulders. “Of course he will!”

That’s enough confirmation for me. I’m ready to be officially and completely his. My heart races just thinking about the ceremony when we’ll be bound together as one.

Another knock on the door. This time, it’s the butler saying the carriage is here. I nod and gesture for Asiina to help me with the train of my dress. I walk toward the carriage only a minute later.

The carriage stops soon at Ishiraya's private temple. It’s nothing compared to Karona’s, but it’s more intimate and simple. Everyone’s seated, waiting for me, and Carus stands up front.

I take a deep breath and step out of the carriage. All eyes turn to me, but all I can focus on is Carus’s gaze. The door closes behind me and the ride leaves.

I walk towards him, feeling everyone’s gaze on me. The small temple resembles a greenhouse with a statue of Ishiraya where Carus stands. When I join hands with him, I notice a magic circle around us.

“It’s to seal our bond,” Carus explains.

“Sorry, I’m still unfamiliar with dark elf ceremonies.”

He nuzzles my nose with his.

“Don’t worry too much about it. You look absolutely beautiful, by the way.”

“Thank you. You look handsome yourself.”

He dons his usual attire, but he replaced the red accent with a shimmering amber. I can’t tell if it’s painted on or if it’s dust from gemstones. I have a hunch he picked the color to match my eyes.

“I tried to wear white, but it looked awful on me. I hope you don’t mind.”

I caress his arm, feeling the leather. “Not at all. Black is your color, after all.”

He smiles and caresses the veil. “I was right to choose this. Even though you’re showing more skin, you look more ethereal than you did before.”

“Carus,” I mumble as my cheeks flush.

“Careful now. Save that expression for tonight,” he teases.

I smack his arm. “Stop it. Everyone will hear you.”
