A faint smile fluttered across her face. “War?”

“Yes, obviously, there was a battle here between a beautiful fairy and her little ones and a troll.”

She laughed, pushing a piece of hair out of her face. “Are you referring to Billy as a troll?”

“If the shoe fits.”

A huge grin danced across her lovely features. “It certainly does, but to be fair to Billy, he had other trolls. The kid is a natural leader, especially in disasters.”

“Well, he won’t get the best of us.” He pulled her to her feet. “We got this.”

“Thanks.” She stared into his eyes. “I appreciate your help.”

“Let’s just say I have a thing for fairies.”

“And apparently a good imagination.” She was breathless, and this time, it had nothing to do with chasing Billy and his trolls and everything to do with Daniel.

So, he had a thing for fairies. She had one for handsome, hard-to-read gallery owners who were sometimes cranky. She’d sure love to kiss this one now.

Did he? He leaned closer but turned away and grabbed a broom. “I’ll start with the floors. Do you want to clean the desks?”

Disappointment sunk through her. Boy, sometimes she felt like bug repellent around him. Why did he always bolt?

Vivian did say he never mixed business with pleasure…it certainly looked like she was right. Maybe it was a lost cause with him. What was she even thinking?

She bit her lip. Just because she wanted to kiss Daniel didn’t mean she wanted a relationship with him, but she did want to kiss him.

Tingles spiked through her, urging her to go to him. She had never been the one to ignite things; that was more Megan’s style. She took a deep breath as she picked up her phone. Before she could change her mind, she sent a group text to the class members’ parents and one to Joann.

She straightened her back, went to him, and tapped him on the shoulder. He spun around, his eyes wide.

“Drop the broom,” she commanded.

“Um, why?” He held onto it like he was clinging for his life. “Your class is in an hour.”

“It’s canceled.”

“But we can clean it in time,” he mumbled, stepping back.

“Not if you kiss me.”

This was beyond awkward. What was she doing? Megan would think she had gone off the deep end. Perhaps she had. Her dad would be appalled. Joann would be delighted. Somehow, she had the feeling Vivian would be rooting for her.

“But—” he stammered, clutching the broom tighter. “We work together.”

“It’s just a kiss, nothing more.” She put her hand on the broom. “I promise.”

His grip loosened. “I don’t want to hurt you. Things would never work out with us.”

“I’m not that fragile.” She moved closer to him. “Unless you don’t want to kiss me, but you did say you had a thing for fairies.”

He gulped. “I do.”

“Then kiss me before I change my mind.”

He dropped the broom and swept her into his strong arms. His lips met hers in a fiery kiss, making her knees weak. He pulled her close until their hearts beat wildly against each other.

Warnings flashed in her neurons. He said this couldn’t work, but she spat them away as passion flowed through her veins because this felt perfect.
