"Complicated," I snapped before he could finish.

"An understatement," Theo countered, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Right," Carlisle sighed, rubbing at his temple as if the revelation had given him a sudden headache. "Because why would anything be simple?"

Carlisle's gaze flicked between Theo and me. "Is this about jealousy?" he asked, his tone almost casual. "You saw them kissing before?"

“Kissing?” I spun on Theo, my heart hammering against my ribs. "What the hell does he mean? You fucking kissed her?"

"Alastor," Theo started, holding up his hands, a defensive move that only fuelled my anger.

"Answer the damn question." My fists clenched at my sides.

"She was upset, Alastor," he said, eyes not quite meeting mine. "Worried about you. I... I just wanted to distract her."

"By kissing her? What happened to leaving her alone?"

“You decided you were leaving her alone. I never made that choice,” Theo said, his own anger clear in his voice. “And it wasn’t planned. It just happened.”

My skin rippled, itching with the urge to shift and unleash the beast within. I could feel the anger boiling, the jealousy lancing through me like poison. The thought of his lips on hers, of her being comforted by anyone but me—it was maddening.

"Alastor," Carlisle warned. "You need to control yourself."

"Control?" I spat the word out like it was vile, my hands balling into fists. Every muscle tensed, an internal battle raging as the hellhound fought to break free. "What happened after that? Did you fuck her?"

“What?”

To his credit, Theo looked shocked by the very accusation, and it was probably that that stopped me from simply going for his throat.

“No, of course I didn’t fuck her. She’s an angel for Heaven’s sake, and I’ve got a hell of a lot more respect for her than just dragging her off to bed the moment she shows any interest in me,” he retorted hotly.

“What happened?”

“She ran off.” Regret crossed his face, and he frowned. “She freaked out. I barely kissed her, it wasn’t even… I never meant to scare her. I feel like shit about it."

“You should,” I snapped. “So, what now. Are you going to ignore everything we talked about? Are you going to claim her?" The question hung between us, heavy with implications that twisted my gut.

"I don't know, Alastor," Theo said. "I want Sariel to get to know me, really know me, before I drop a bomb like that on her. But I can’t just ignore what's happening."

I turned and paced up and down the tent, rage simmering beneath the surface as I fought to control myself. “I can’t believe you… you can’t do that to her, Theo. Make her choose between her entire life, her entire fucking worldview, and you. You think she's just going to accept that her two fated mates are a wolf and a hellhound? You think that's not going to break her? It’s fucking selfish and it’s going to destroy her.” I spun around, eyes blazing with my fury. “I won’t let you do it.”

Theo's eyes flashed, his wolf rising to the surface at my words. "And what? You're going to stop me?" His voice was a low growl, bone deep and animalistic.

I stopped pacing and faced him, my eyes meeting his. "If I have to."

“You’re a fucking coward,” Theo spat. “Forget losing your mind over her, you’ve lost your fucking spine.”

My fist connected with his jaw hard enough to send him staggering backwards to keep his balance. Golden eyes flashed at me in challenge as he regained his footing and glared at me.

“You’re a fucking coward,” he said again, annunciating every word as if I was thick. “You’re too fucking scared of her rejecting you to even give her a chance to make the choice for herself.”

“Say it again,” I said, my tone low and menacing as I advanced on him. I couldn’t believe it. Laid back joker Theo was fucking calling me out.

Theo balled his fists. “I will. You think you’re so strong and powerful, but I've known you for ten years and you've never had a relationship in that time ever. You fuck around, but as soon as you’re faced with any kind of attachment, you are fucking out of there. Even Cole…”

“Don’t talk about Cole,” I growled, the spikes on my back forcing their way through my skin as the inclination to control my temper was slipping away with every word this damn wolf said.

“No, let’s not talk about Cole,” sneered Theo. “I mean, you’ve only kept the poor guy on leash for fucking centuries. How the hell he puts up with you pushing him away constantly is beyond me. The guy deserves a fucking medal. All I can say is you must be one damn good fuck, cause what else are you fucking good for?”
