I gripped the scroll tighter, feeling a tingle as the magic contained within flowed into my skin, and my smile widened asI felt my consciousness flow down into it. I could feel them, the strange dusty existence of the golems, awaiting their orders from their new master. I sent a command silently through the link and as one the golems turned away from my team, facing out to the edges of the garden. I grinned. Oh yes.

"Form a perimeter," I shouted, finding my voice. "Defend our ground!"

The golems complied, like clockwork soldiers, forming a circle around the garden as the hellions streamed through the streets. The hellions ran into the wall of clay bodies and recoiled back, screeching in anger and surprise.

“Attack!” I ordered, and chaos erupted. The golems surged forward in a wave of clay and rock, slamming into the hellions with a force that sent several tumbling backwards.

Alastor and Theo transformed back into their human forms, staring at me in disbelief as the golems continued to push back the hellion horde. I grinned at them, shouting over the noise.

"What? You didn't think I'd actually put this thing to good use?"

"Theo," Alastor said, turning to him with wide eyes. "Remind me never to piss her off."

Theo laughed, striking a dramatic pose. "My lady commands an army! I am but your humble servant," he said loudly, making me roll my eyes even as I couldn't suppress my laugh.

"Sariel!" Ash called from the temple steps. "Left flank!"

I turned, seeing a new wave of hellions breaking through the line of golems. Raising the scroll high once again, I ordered more golems to move and reinforce that side. Soon enough, they had regrouped and were holding back the demons once more.

I flew from the dais, landing next to Alastor and Theo.

"You've got control?" Alastor asked, his eyes flicking over the battle that was raging at the edges of the garden.

I smiled at him, feeling more like myself than I had for months. “I’ve got this. Angel host commander. This is what I do.”

He nodded, a strange look in his eyes that unsettled me for a moment. We had the scroll, and an army of golems to help us escape, but Alastor looked… defeated.

Carlisle and Ash joined us. "How can we help?" Carlisle asked.

"The golems will hold them off for a bit," I said, keeping my gaze on the unfolding battle scene. "But we need to get out of here."

“We need to head back to the tunnel,” Alastor said. “Find our way back to the surface.”

I nodded in agreement, feeling a sudden pang of unease. This was far from over. We still needed to escape, and outside the garden the city would be swarming with hellions.

"Right," I nodded, turning to my makeshift army. "Golems, hold off the hellions. Create a safe route for us towards the tunnel."

Like obedient soldiers, they immediately did as they were told. Their heavy footfalls echoed around us as they charged the demonic force, opening up a pathway towards our escape route. Alastor and Theo ran back up the temple steps, dressing hurriedly, and throwing on the packs we still had.

"Right, head out, and keep eyes on the skies!” snapped Alastor.

I looked up to see the swarm of winged beasts moving about the space like some kind of hellish murmuration. So far only a few had come within attacking range, but I had a feeling it wouldn’t be long.

We moved as a unit, Alastor at the front with Theo covering our rear, while Ash and Carlisle flanked me. The golems continued to hold their ground, their heavy bodies forming an impenetrable wall around us. The hellions screeched and spat, clawing at the clay soldiers who fought back, splattering the streets with dark ichor.

We made our way slowly through the city, following the path created by the golems as they pushed back against the attacking hellions. The city was a cacophony of screeching and snarling, punctuated by the heavy thuds of golems engaging their enemies.

"Ahead! More coming!" Ash shouted, pointing towards a side street off to our right. A swarm of hellions were barrelling down towards us, their red eyes glowing in the fading light.

"Reform! Close the ranks!" I ordered immediately. The golems moved as one, forming a protective circle around us while those at the front advanced to engage our new attackers. The fight was fierce and quick. The hellions were thrown back by the sheer force of our defence, their bodies careening into buildings and scattering debris across the street.

"Let's move," I commanded as soon as it was clear. My heart pounded with adrenaline as I gripped the scroll tightly, its ancient power surging through me.

Suddenly, the screaming sound of wings filled the air. We looked up to see a wave of winged hellions dive-bombing towards us.

"Incoming!" Alastor shouted,

Carlisle and Ash opened fire, and black scales and ichor rained down over our heads.
