Chapter Five

Lucas

Iwish I could be at our place eating Breeane’s pussy the rest of the night, convincing her to live with us and mate us. Instead, I have to deal with Quinn and Bash.

Bash is a mated vampire. I don’t spend a lot of time with him. He’s pretty ruthless and protective of those he loves. I can appreciate that.

Quinn is a bear shifter, and he is not mated. I don’t like having him in the same room as Breeane. I don’t like that everyone can smell how turned on she is.

“Why are you here?” I ask, snapping my fingers in front of them. “Look here,” I bite out.

“Ryker told us about Breeane. Since we are her neighbors, we wanted to come by,” Bash says, but I swear I see his lips twitch in humor.

“Neighbors, huh?” Logan questions. “You're at least five blocks away.” He crosses his arms.

“Five short blocks,” Quinn says with a straight face.

Quinn owns an investigation agency. Bash’s mate, Marie, worked for Quinn before Bash met her, and now he works there also. I hear that they are busy with human men cheating, beating, and killing their wives. Logan had thought about working there also until we found him. I’m glad he decided against it—what a depressing place to work.

“Thank you for thinking of me,” Breeane says brightly, walking over to stand between Logan and me. “What do you do?”

“I own an investigation firm,” Quinn says.

“I wouldn’t call it a firm,” Bash says dryly, rolling his eyes to Quinn. “It would have to be much bigger to be a firm.”

“Do you want to keep the job?” Quinn asks. “Or I could mention to Marie that you don’t want to work with her anymore,” he grumbles.

“Do you want to die?” Bash threatens.

“I’m not scared, vampire,” Quinn taunts.

“This is fun, but Breeane doesn’t need you. You can go now.” I motion to the door.

“Lucas,” Breeane scolds. “Don’t pay any attention to the cranky lions.” She puts her body in front of me, which I don’t mind—did I mention what a gorgeous ass she has? “I would love to meet your mate, Bash. My best friend will be coming here in a month to open the business with me, but until then, I will be without girl time. I would love to get drinks with her.”

“Baby, she’s a vampire,” I can't help but point out.

“So? Does she not drink anything but blood? I was told they ate food.” She looks over her shoulder at me.

“He’s insinuating that you would be in danger.” Bash glares at me. “You will be the safest person in the room with Marie beside you. I will certainly let her know of your offer. I’m sure she will come by.”

“Great.” She smiles hugely at Bash and then frowns at me. “If you want to mate me, I should get to know your friends.”

I open my mouth, but Las cuts in. “Thank you for making her feel welcome.” He nods at them. “Breeane, would you show me the other rooms?” He holds his hand out to her.

“Of course.” Her smile is blinding. She places her hand in his without reservation, leading him from the room.

I watch them leave, praying that she will be the one to make Las feel the value that I haven’t been able to. Las is complicated. He’s quiet and reserved, but mainly because Logan and I are loud and angry inside and out—we demand attention. He has been responsible for caring for me after all the fights I entered. He had to take up the slack once Logan disappeared.

“She knows of our world?” Bash asks.

“Her best friend told her. I don’t know how much exactly she knows yet,” Logan says.

“She’s not freaking out,” Quinn points out.

“No, quite the opposite.” I lean on the counter. “She wants to go on dates,” I say, grinning and shaking my head.
