“Why are they over in the corner? It’s not like they would hit on those women,” Lady Number Three says.

The four women stopped behind our booth, huddled together, facing the dance floor. “Did you see the one in blue? She should not be wearing that dress.” I glance down at my dress and then over the women sitting with me. I am the only one wearing blue.

Lady Number Four is mine.

Things become a bit chaotic after that.

There may have been a table full of shifters and vampires trying not to show their power and kill the four human women. So instead, drinks and food may have been flung. Curse words spewed. Chocolate smeared across breasts. Popcorn launched. And two deadly vampire men trying to control their women.

That was what they could do—I was human.

I did all of the above, but I also may have thrown a punch or two.

If I were a bystander, seeing seven women covered in alcohol and food, their hair ratted and sticking up in every direction, sheepishly standing in a line across from their sexy, angry mates, I would laugh my ass off.

“Who threw the punches?” Jax, Harmony’s mate, asks.

We look under our lashes at each other, but no one is laughing.

“I could play back the video.” He crosses his arms, rocking back on his heels.

“Who’s going to confess?” Logan asks. I feel his eyes burning into the top of my head.

“I bet it was my mate,” River says, finding this humorous. “I have a hard time being mad when it turns me on.” I hear the crunching of food and glance through my lashes to see him holding a bag of chips.

“Saylor?” her mate Elijah sings. “I know it wasn’t you. My good girl wouldn’t hit a human.” Elijah is a cowboy, complete with boots, a hat, and a toothpick in his mouth. Saylor is a very lucky girl.

“It could have been Penny.” Twins. Penny forgot to mention that she is married to twins.

I tilt my head slightly toward the dragon beside me to see her mouth pop open in shock. “Hey,” she exclaims.

“Definitely,” her other mate agrees. “She would have been the first one to jump them.”

Crap.

“Where were the two oldest vampires I know when all this happened?” Blue, Harmony’s other mate, asks.

“You try controlling this group,” Bash snaps.

“We were trying not to hurt them. Apparently, my pregnant mate can still participate in a brawl,” Ryker growls.

I peek down the line at Serenity. She is the only one not looking at her feet. She grins full out at Ryker. “It felt so good, too.”

“Uh-oh,” Marie whispers. I feel bad that they are getting in trouble.

I slowly raise my hand.

“Breeane? Something to say?” Lucas asks. I am choosing to believe that there’s humor in his voice.

“It’s not our fault,” I start. I was shielding my face with my hair—I could feel my cheek swelling. Lady Number Four slapped me.

“Not your fault?” Las asks, disbelieving.

I snap my head up, glaring but keeping my injured face turned away. “They were the ones that were talking about being with Ryker and Bash.” I fling my arm towards the bar. “You can’t talk that way about their mates.”

“Did you throw the punches?” Logan asks.

“Well, yeah,” I say defensively. “I didn’t want the girls to get in trouble by doing it themselves. I am the only human. I was happy to do it.” I cross my arms defensively.
