Surprise lingered on his features as he leaned against the front counter. “I thought you were Rowan’s right hand?”

“I am. Between the two alphas, there isn’t much work left for me to handle. I was hoping to keep myself busy.”

He considered it for a moment as he examined me closely, and then he let go of a breath and stood to his full height, dropping his arms. “I can’t blame you. Idle hands and all that. Do you have any experience in a garage?”

“Let me show you,” I returned easily, gesturing for him to follow me out the front door.

Interested, Donovan fell into step behind me until we reached the parking lot. He looked impressed immediately once his eyes fell on my motorcycle.

“You did all this?” he asked, cocking a brow.

A small, satisfied smile crept across my lips. “From the custom bars down to the chrome detailing. I built the engine from scratch back at our old stomping grounds.”

Donovan checked out all the modifications I had done, and he let out a low whistle. “You certainly know your stuff.”

Nodding, I took in my own handiwork. “I’ve been around bikes and cars my whole life. It’s almost therapeutic at this point.”

With a look of consideration, Donovan pulled back and scrubbed a hand over his chin. “To be completely transparent with you, we’ve been shorthanded as of late. We trained up an apprentice, then he buggered off to the city for a bigger gig. I’d at least like to see what else you’re capable of.”

A wave of pride rushed through me at once, and I couldn’t help but smile. “Just give me a time and price, and I’ll be there.”

“We can go over the details later, but I’m happy to welcome you to the team,” he said, chuckling. He put out a hand to shake.

I took it and relished in knowing I had something new lined up. While I didn’t mind relaxing, I needed something to occupy myself with. Something to pass the time and to make those tranquil moments feel even more worth it.

“I will warn you, Griffin. My guys here are still a bit sore from everything that happened before, and while things are getting better, some of that tension still exists. I’m hoping you won’t stir up any trouble during your time here,” Donovan said, tone shifting to a more serious one. “I’d hate to see anything happen.”

With a deep breath, I nodded and gave him the best reassuring look I could muster. “I’ll be on my best behavior.”

Nodding once more, Donovan gestured toward the garage. “Good. On that note, I’ll give you a tour.”

Chapter 7 - Sara

Even after sleeping it off, my blood was still boiling.

No matter what I did or how I tried to change my mood, I could only think about Griffin and his audacity. How he thought he had authority over what I did on my own property.

It was absurd.

I tried to be a good neighbor when he first moved in. I showed him grace and kindness, as I was sure the change would be an adjustment for him. And despite all that, he was so negative that he couldn’t stop himself from raining on my parade. It had become a routine by then, and I was tired of it.

Normally, any problems I had, I would try and leave them at the door before starting work. But I couldn’t help it. I couldn’t stop myself from huffing and puffing as I moved boxes around and got started with new inventory.

Picking up a talisman made of natural wood and other fibers, my mind immediately went back to Griffin. How he hated my decorations and wanted them taken down.

“What has he done now?” Willow asked from across the room while she wiped down the counter and everything around it.

“How did you know?”

She snickered to herself. “You’ve been stomping around all morning, and you’ve hardly said a word. That’s a silent indicator that Griffin pissed you off somehow.”

Letting go of a frustrated sigh, I silently cursed myself for not being discreet about my annoyance. While Willow was my friend, she was also my boss and coven sister. I didn’t want her to think I was unprofessional.

There was no backtracking then.

“We got into it again last night. I was decorating for Ostara, and he was a jerk about it,” I answered her, feeling as if my blood boiled all over again.

Willow leaned against the counter and gave me an empathetic look. “Is living next to him worth the headache? Maybe you should move somewhere else if he can’t be cordial.”
