“Good. I trust her and that everything has happened for a reason, even if we didn’t have the best start. Regardless of what I or anyone else said in the past about you, I want you to know that it was all bullshit. There is nothing wrong with you, Jane. Don’t forget that. Besides, I haven’t stopped thinking about you or how gorgeous you are since I saw you.”

Giving her hand a slight squeeze, I wanted her to feel every ounce of my attraction to her. To feel just how much she affected me on a daily basis.

Seemingly surprised to hear those words, Jane could only blink back at me while she fought off the beginning of tears, and she discreetly wiped at her eyes. A small blush entered her cheeks. “Thank you, Levi.”

“I mean it. Now, why don’t we prove what you’re capable of and find ourselves something a bit bigger to chew on?” I proposed, feeling the slightest bit of mischief within me.

Jane’s smile grew bigger at the prospect, catching on to what I meant, and she nodded.

Accepting my challenge, she got to her feet and left the fishing rod behind.

Following suit, I walked with her as we moved away from the dock. I gave in to my wolf and let the shift overtake me. Before I knew it, my vision slipped into that more primitive form, and the rush was immediate.

Before I had the chance to truly take in her beautiful white fur, Jane started in a run, already slipping under the tree cover.

Intrigued by the thought of a chase, almost like it was a challenge of my own, I ran after her. Following her scent seemed addicting then, and I didn’t want to lose out on being near her for even a moment.

Running through the woods was like a new kind of high, thanks to being freshly mated and given the boosted strength because of it. I never knew how badly I needed that mate connection before, but ever since I got a taste of it, I knew I’d never be able to give it up.

The pack was ecstatic about the elk we tracked down together, and they wasted no time preparing it for everyone to enjoy.

As the fire crackled and the meat cooked, along with the fish we had caught earlier, I watched with pride swelling in my chest as the others congratulated Jane on her big prize. They spoke to her warmly, offering their smiles and thanks every chance they had.

Since we had more than enough food to go around, I invited the guys to join us, and they weren’t shy about striking up conversations with her too. They could be a lot to handle at times, but they were respectful and helped make her feel comfortable in her new home.

It was nice to see them connecting with her, and thankfully, I felt secure enough in our bond not to risk me going over the handle on them.

It put me at ease to watch as she smiled bashfully in return for the praise she received, pleased with herself for stepping up to the challenge and seeing it through. Even if she had felt like an outsider coming into the fold, it seemed that transition was becoming easier with every passing day.

Our time together had been nothing short of a rush, and I felt we both walked away from it knowing a bit more about each other, as if we had reached a new milestone. It gave me hope, and I couldn’t help but think the Goddess had truly been right all along.

My mate was strong, intelligent, and alluring, and I was grateful to have her in my life.

Chapter 15 - Jane

A week had passed since the hunt, and things had been turning around. The pack had been unbelievably supportive and grateful for the bounty we brought back, and it left me walking on air.

As easy as it was to be angry with Levi for what he said and did in the past, it was also becoming easier to accept that he had changed. That he regretted treating me as he had, and he did want to be better.

His encouragement helped me push through my self-doubt, and it genuinely meant the world to me.

He cared, and that helped me come to terms with my new life. I knew that every day couldn’t be easy, but with him there to lift me up, I could enjoy things in a way I hadn’t been before.

Thanks to his willingness to make amends and guide me through the strange circumstances I found myself in, our bond felt stronger than ever, and being his mate didn’t seem scary anymore.

Waking up to his empty side of the bed made my heart long to see him, but I reminded myself that I’d get to be near him later. He was busy and had his own obligations with his business.

Given how nice my new home is, it was hard to complain about waking up alone.

I took the morning slow and made myself some breakfast before getting dressed. I wasn’t sure how I intended to spend my time, so I considered visiting Nati again.

As much as I enjoyed going for walks and soaking up the sun, not having anything to put my time into started feeling monotonous, and I was looking for something of my own to focus on.

Stepping outside, the sun warmed my skin, making me feel grateful that I wasn’t stuck in Sam’s pack. While I had seen going with Levi as a death sentence before, there was no denying how much better my life was without Sam and the others. For the first time, I got to experience peace and quiet undisturbed by pack members, hoping to be bumped up in the ranks.

While there were some things I missed, I knew I had been dealt the better hand. I didn’t want to ever forget that.
