As I made my way up, I went to his side and looked through the surprisingly big panes. With the sky as a black backdrop dotted with brilliant stars, the moon sat front and center and illuminated the space around us. As the water moved gently, the moon’s light only looked more beautiful.

“It’s wonderful,” I murmured, smiling as I took it all in.

It really was picture-perfect, and I still couldn’t believe I was able to spend that time with Levi, appreciating the world around us.

Levi’s arm slipped around my back as he held me against his side, enveloping me in his warmth. I wasted no time soaking it in like I would never get the chance to again.

“I wish I could tell you just how grateful I am to have you,” Levi murmured close to my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. “And for the life you’re growing inside you. But I’m afraid no words will ever properly describe it.”

Softening from his tender words, I turned to face him and felt both his arms surrounding me, making me feel completely and utterly safe from the outside world.

“I’m really glad you brought me here. I see why you love it so much,” I returned gently as I appreciated every second I could. “And I know things weren’t ideal for us before, but I’m grateful for everything that has happened. How we have been working on us and better understanding each other. I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

Sporting a proud smile, Levi raised one of his hands to gently press against my cheek, and his thumb thoughtfully caressed my skin. “You don’t know how glad I am to hear that.”

As we smiled at one another, standing within the glow of how much stronger our bond was, he leaned forward and pressed our lips together. Instinctively, I returned the embrace and allowed myself to melt into it.

With the warmth and pleasure that moved through me, it was getting harder to doubt the love and affection that had been blossoming between us.

For the first time in my life, I was allowed to feel that tender embrace of meaning something to someone and not being allowed to doubt their intentions.

When we pulled apart, my cheeks began to ache from smiling, and I returned my attention to the captivating scenery outside. Silently, I looked toward the moon and thanked the Goddess for knowing exactly what I needed.

Chapter 24 - Levi

Our weekend together was more than I ever could’ve asked for.

Just the two of us, we made perfectly imperfect meals, went for walks through the woods, lounged around the lake, and spent so much time talking that I was afraid we would both lose our voices.

By the end of it, I had never felt more complete before, and there was no chance to deny that our bond was truly blessed.

Neither of us wanted it to end as we dragged our feet packing, but with the arrival of Sunday afternoon, we couldn’t avoid our responsibilities for long.

With that, we loaded up the Jeep from where it had waited for us since I had dropped it off beforehand and climbed in.

Both completely relaxed and rejuvenated from our weekend away, we were content on the drive back as we soaked in the warmth around us. Even if I never used to give myself time off before, having a mate made me realize how important it was to reserve those breaks for us and nurture our bond.

I couldn’t help but think about our next weekend away, and I knew we’d have to get more in before the baby arrived.

Feeling in tune with one another and fully connected, my optimism was high as we pulled back into the neighborhood. But the moment I spotted Sebastian and Beau standing outside the house with concern written on their faces, that wholesome feeling began to dissolve.

Pulling up to them, I furrowed my brows in question. “What’s going on?”

Sebastian sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “We have a bit of a problem you should see.”

Dread filled my system as I nodded and pulled into the garage before the two of us met up with them out front.

“What’s going on?”

“This way,” Sebastian said, gesturing down the street as he began in that direction. “We have one of Sam’s.”

The reminder of Sam and the issues surrounding him felt like a punch to the face after spending the perfect weekend with Jane, yet it seemed my time to avoid him was over.

“How did they get here?” I questioned, falling into step with him.

“He came during the night, but luckily, Logan had spotted him and captured the wolf before he could do anything. Although, he didn’t seem to put up too much of a fight apparently,” Sebastian replied, focused on the task ahead. “Since you were out, he contacted us, and we came straight over to make sure everything was alright. We’ve been monitoring the place in case anyone else decides to show up.”

Alarm ran through me, along with the need to get to the bottom of everything. Even if I didn’t like the idea of one of the others trespassing without the intention of joining us, I couldn’t help but see it as an opportunity. We had one of them, which meant I would have the chance to ask him questions.
