“To him, it should cost me my mate, but I can’t let that happen,” Levi muttered, his eyes distant as he considered it. “To even know he intends to wager Ivy for you is infuriating.”

“It doesn’t matter what he thinks,” I urged him, reaching forward and placing a gentle hand against his arm. “I’m with you, and we’ve accepted each other as mates, regardless of what Sam wants to try and pull. I’m not going anywhere.”

Levi seemed to relax somewhat at the sentiment, and I could tell it helped soothe some of his worries. However, I could sense just how deeply that anger ran, and I knew a few words from me wouldn’t completely solve any of it. After everything Sam did to him, Levi had a right to be furious.

“That means everything to me, and I know our bond can’t be broken so easily, but I know Sam is only doing this to twist the knife and to try and one-up me,” he said, letting some of his anger go to explain himself. “He has conveniently seen your worth after being blind to it before, despite having been in his pack all along. I’m furious about how he and the others treated you, and for the gall, he has to turn around and claim he wants you for himself. He’s opportunistic and deceptive, and I won’t let him continue to think he has won.”

I had to admit, I was also angry that Sam decided to see me as a prize after everything. Despite how I was ignored and ridiculed by him and the others, he never did anything about it. He handed me over to Levi like I was of no importance, and I knew he didn’t believe in my abilities either.

As Levi said, he was opportunistic, and there was no denying that. Even if he didn’t really want me for himself, there was a high chance he only wanted to take something else from Levi. He didn’t care about me, and no part of me wanted to go back to living like that.

“Sam likely just wants to use my premonitions to his advantage,” I said, reminding myself that I needed to focus on the issue rather than my frustrations. I needed Levi to make clear and conscious decisions.

“Which he failed to see before.”

“Speaking of my premonitions, what the wolf said about Sam’s plans had me thinking,” I said to Levi, hoping to get us both on the same page. In my vision, I saw him plan to ambush the pack at night and try to take me. It was elaborate, but I have the feeling he intends to do it tonight.”

Levi’s jaw flexed at the mention of it, but he sighed. “It sounds likely, but regardless of his plans, I won’t let it happen. I have more to fight for now than ever before, and I’ll do whatever it takes to ruin Sam.”

Relieved that his anger seemed less intense, I nodded my understanding. “What are we going to do then?”

“We’ll use Sam’s plan against him and strike first. Thanks to your abilities, we know how he plans to do it, but we'll have the upper hand as long as we hit him before he hits us.”

“What about the others?” I asked, aware that there were more than enough people in Sam’s pack who might get caught in the crossfire of a fight. We need to make sure nobody else gets hurt.”

“And nobody else will,” Levi answered, reaching for my hand as resolve settled into his features. “This will be about Sam and me and nobody else. It’s time to settle it once and for all.”

As intimidating as it sounded, I knew I had to have faith in Levi. As his mate, it was my job to be his shoulder to lean on and the reassurance he needed. If anyone could stop Sam, it was him.

Chapter 26 - Jane

Levi wasted no time calling the pack meeting after he made up his mind, and soon enough, everyone was gathered outside the house, looking toward us for answers.

As the pack stood there, showing our smaller-than-average numbers, there was a mutual uneasiness that moved between everyone. Nobody knew what was truly to come, and that was the most nerve-wracking part.

“What did you decide?” Logan asked, crossing his arms over his chest as he listened.

“I came up with my plan, and it involves striking tonight.”

Everyone seemed alarmed by the proclamation, yet they paid close attention despite their uncertainty.

“I never wanted there to be a full confrontation, but I suppose I always knew it would come down to this,” Levi explained, diving into the details. “Jane had a premonition that Sam will strike us when we’re asleep, and we have every reason to believe that will be taking place tonight. He has decided that in exchange for Ivy joining us, Sam wants Jane in her stead, but that will not be happening.”

Ivy’s eyes immediately widened in horror as she looked between us. “Because of me?”

“Since you switched packs, Sam feels that the scales have tipped in my favor, and now he’s demanding Jane in return. But don’t worry; I won’t let either of you be sent anywhere against your will. Regardless of what he wants, I plan to stop him.”

His promise not to let Sam get away with his antics soothed her, and Ivy nodded, fully trusting Levi and his intentions. When she looked my way, I gave her a reassuring nod as a promise of my own.

Sam could try to take Ivy back instead, but I wouldn’t let that happen either. My best friend deserved better than his leadership.

“I know now that I should’ve put an end to this sooner, but since you have been loyal to me, I want to keep all of you in mind while moving forward with this. I want your input since my decisions affect everyone,” Levi said, looking between the crowd of anxious wolves. “If you all agree, then a group of us will make our way to the other pack territory and make sure this is finished.”

Everyone murmured among themselves for a moment, and Nati was the first to speak up.

“If Sam plans on attempting to take our Luna from us and get in the way of our prosperity, then something needs to be done about it. He needs to be stopped, and the others should have the chance to live differently without risking exile or ridicule. I agree.”

Levi nodded, accepting her response.
