Earlier that Afternoon

“Ireally don’t need sleep, Rav,” I try to argue as she pushes me onto the bed. The look on her face tells me I’m not getting away with this one.

“Yes, you do. I appreciate all the hard work you do, but rest is important, too,” she says as she pulls the covers over me. “Besides, this way I won’t feel bad about not making the bed.”

“Do I get a good night kiss?” I question with an eyebrow wiggle.

“Just a tiny one and then close your eyes,” she orders me.

I let out a huff, but nod in agreement, I watch as she lowers herself towards me. She doesn’t kiss me on my lips but on my forehead . “Rest well, my love.”

Before I close my eyes, I watch as she exits, then I fall fast asleep.

My eyes snap open again as cold descends on me. I’d barely closed my eyes and drifted off.

Something found me in their absence.

“No!” a woman's voice shrieks, chilling me to my bones.

Why can’t I see anything? Where am I?

It’s dark out, there isn’t light to make out my surroundings.

“Raven?” I whisper, not daring to move from my spot, that is until a scream rips through the darkness.

My feet carry me of their own accord and I’m swatted by the limbs of the trees I’m rushing by. The urgency in it pushes me forward despite every cell in my body telling me to turn the other way.

“Raven?” I call out into the darkness. How am I here? This is Eli’s power, not mine.

A muffled voice sounds to my right. I turn to see a girl that resembles my Raven. Not as closely as Iris, but they are definitely family.

Sandy-blonde hair cascades down one side of her face with a stain of red near the bottom. When I start to move toward her, she holds a hand up to her lips, telling me to be quiet and I hear what she fears…footsteps.

As lightly as I can, I close the distance between us and help her up. She leans on me for support and points me in the direction that I need to start moving.

We move as fast but as quietly as we can. With each step, her body clenches and her pain washes over me with her terror. I’ve never been the manliest man and I’m scared shitless.

She guides me effortlessly through the trees and we make it to an old barn. “Go in,” she whispers.

I nod, but I doubt that she can see me in the dark. I leave her to stand on her own as I open the rusty tin door. It doesn’t creak and I say a silent prayer of thanks to whoever is watching out for us.

Once I have it just wide enough, she slips in and I follow, closing the door behind me before I search for something to bar the door with. It has to be secure before I relax if I can.

The girl hands me a lock and chains and I make quick work of those items as she lights a lantern.

My shoulders sag as I turn towards my company, “Pandora?” I ask, her name leaving my lips lightly.

In the dim light, I see her nod.

“How is this possible?” I question her.

“What are you talking about and how do you know my name?” she queries.

“Raven,” is all I get out when her eyes go wide.

“She’s not here, is she? Please don’t let her be in this nightmare,” she squeaks out.

“Where are we?” I ask, not answering her question.
