“Oh, I’m so clumsy,” he mutters loudly as we all scramble to clean it up and clean the random dirt now covering the corner of the table.

When the noise in the diner is back to normal we all look at Lucien.

“Care to explain what just happened?” I inquired in a low voice.

“My ability strikes again,” Lucien says. The tightness in his voice and tense shoulders give away just how he feels about it. “I’ll show you in the car.”

“I’ve got the check,” Eli says before hurrying off and paying Cindy. From the flirting, he must have given a decent tip.

None of us hesitate to rush out of the diner and climb into the car. The anticipation is honestly killing me and the fact Lucien has done this twice means it’s definitely not just a fluke. I just hope whatever the item is, it’s a step in the right direction.

“Well, what is it?” Raven demands as Eli starts up the car. Lucien holds out a dirt-encrusted box.

“Pandora’s box… tell me I’m not the only one who caught the pun in this?” Eli asks as he laughs to himself.

“What’s inside?” Raven’s question hangs in the air as Lucien starts to open the wooden box with trembling hands.

“It’s a bone. A finger bone to be exact.”

Raven

It was harder than I thought to let Lucien and Eli go back to work, especially after the box made its appearance. Too many questions raced through my mind and at that moment, I wished for my cousin to come to me. I knew she could answer some of the questions I had since I was starting to see more spirits again. As much as this power is a curse it is a blessing in matters like this.

“Earth to Raven,” Jayce says, waving his hands near my face.

“What? Huh?” I ask, blinking as I’m pulled back into reality.

“You okay?” he asks with concern in his tone.

“Oh, yes, just overthinking it all. Nothing new,” I tell him, trying to brush off my anxiety. The image of the bony finger is embedded in my mind now and I can't shake it.

He takes my hand in his, “You still have me.”

“Yes, I’m grateful for that, I truly am. It’s just better when we aren’t so far apart,” I tell him.

“I know, but what if we take your mind off that and go check out the hunting store. Maybe finding some clues will help?” Jayce asks.

“What are we, the Scooby gang now?” I question back.

“We could get a puppy. We have the space now,” he teases.

"Don’t joke about a puppy. I’ve always wanted one,” I say with a laugh. Though the idea of getting a dog for protection sounded like a good idea.

“Well, let’s get these spirits off the farm and Pandora to rest. After that, we’ll get a puppy,” he agrees with a wide grin.

I place a kiss on his cheek, “What did I do to deserve you?” I ask, tears welling up in my eyes.

“You always forget I’m the lucky one,” he says as he kisses me back. We share a quiet moment, breathing each other in before he finally pulls me to the car.

“Do you know where we’re going?” I ask as I climb into the passenger seat.

“I heard what that hunter told Eli, but it’s not a big town. If we get lost we can stop and ask for directions.” He shrugs as he starts the car. “We’ll figure it out.”

“You mean I’ll ask. I’ve never seen you or Eli ask for directions,” I tease him.

“You’re cuter than we are, more people are willing to help you,” he says.

“Most people are scared of me, blue hair and a black wardrobe doesn’t scream: I’m easy to talk to,” I remind him.
