“Oh hell, no. I’m not staying behind,” he tells me.

I can’t contain the laugh that escapes my lips. I knew baiting him would work.

“You two done chatting?” Eli asks with irritation in his tone.

"Yes, Daddy,” I tease but cringe a little at my own words.

“Umm. This just got a little weird,” he replies.

I roll my eyes, “Shut up and lead the way.”

Lucien brings up the rear, that way no one or thing can sneak up on us.

Our footsteps echo loudly as we traipse over toward the old homestead. Jayce nearly jumps out of his skin when we stop and there are crunching sounds to our left.

All the beams race toward the sound and it’s just a raccoon that seems to have trespassed onto our farm.

“Looks like we have our first little friend,” Lucien comments.

At his words, the raccoon lets out a small hiss.

“You are more than welcome to try and pet him.” Eli laughs.

“Come on, we’re wasting time,” I tell them, moving ahead of Eli.

“No, no, no,” Eli tsks, “You’re not going in that house. I vote Jayce, he is the lightest guy.”

“Hey, just because you’re a fat ass, doesn’t mean that you can volunteer me,” Jayce pipes up.

“You’re just jealous of all this junk in this trunk,” Eli says as he shakes his ass in Jayce’s direction.

To be fair, Eli does have more of an ass than Jayce but not by much.

“I’ll go in,” Lucien offers, ignoring the other two.

“I weigh the least of all of us. What if Jayce and I go in? But not too close to each other? That way we aren’t putting too much strain on the old flooring,” I tell him.

“I don’t like this Rav, but sending in Eli is a bad idea with his visions. He falls like a ton of bricks and the floor would give way again. That’s a disaster in the making,” Lucien says as Jayce and Eli walk over.

“I agree, Eli and you stay outside,” I state and a look of relief washes over Eli’s face.

“So, I was right, Jayce is the one going in,” Eli says with a smug smile.

“And me,” I pipe in.

With that, his face falls, “What? Why?”

“I’m not some helpless girl,” I remind him. “I was given the power to see ghosts, what if there is someone in there that needs our help? Besides, Pandora is my cousin, I told her that I would help put her to rest.”

“She’s got a point,” Jayce offers up.

“You’re just saying that because you don’t want to go in alone,” Eli sighs.

“Eli, don’t be a dick. This is my choice,” I say, pushing past him.

“Rav, don’t be mad at me,” he begs, jogging to catch up with me.

“I’m not mad,” I huff, not stopping until I get to the porch. “Just don’t underestimate me. I’m capable and I need to do this.”
