“Yes.”

“Can I have one of your shirts to wear?”

I don’t hesitate. I rush to get what she wants, and ten minutes later she comes out wearing my shirt.

Mine.

“What will they do with the bodies?” she asks as she walks to the window as I’m trying to control my raging hard-on just because she is wearing my clothes.

I laugh. “Are you trying to change the subject?”

“You need to forget about it. It’s over.” Her eyes meet mine as she says, “They’re dead, and we have to think about this pack. Our future.”

I almost stumble as I sit on her bed. “You want this pack?”

Her gaze never looks away from mine as she strolls from the window and stands in front of me for a moment.

I’m aware of every movement as she holds my shoulders and sits in my lap. Her eyes study my face. “I think I do.”

My hands brace her hips, pulling her closer. “You think.”

Her lips turn up and into a wide smile. “I do.”

My heart races and I don’t even realize how much I needed to hear it until she brushes away a tear that escaped down my cheek.

“Oh, my sweet.” My arms wrap around her, holding her close and pressing my nose against her skin and smelling her.

She shifts closer again and presses her face into the crook of my neck, and we stay like this for a perfect moment.

“Thank you.” I purr.

She joins me until our purrs meld and the churning in my stomach has turned into a gentle whirl.

“You’re perfect, my sweet,” I say against her head.

She laughs. “You always call me that.”

“Because you not only smell so sweet, but you are sweet. You’re sexy. You’re amazing. But above all. You’re so fucking sweet. Like now. I hurt you. I changed your life.” Tears coat my eyes as I shake my head. “And you’re still being so fucking sweet. You should hate me.”

“I can’t hate you. You called Walker. You could’ve let them kill me. It would’ve ended my sister’s life if anything happened to me.”

Our eyes lock.

My voice drops into a murmur. “I understand that you may never trust me. Not fully.” I laugh and then sigh. “And to be honest, I haven’t done anything to earn your trust. Only break it. All I’ve ever wanted is for an omega to love me enough to present her neck to me. To let me own her. Claim her. To let me be hers forever...” I blow out a breath.

“Ga... Gabe.” Her voice stutters.

“Shh. Let me speak. But for you, my sweet. I don’t deserve that. And I’ll never expect you to give me that honor.”

“Shh.” She licks over my neck. “Stop beating yourself up about the past.”

“I can’t help it.”

I flip her onto her back on the bed, sliding myself on top of her, and groan when my erection digs into her belly. “That wasn’t supposed to happen.”

She laughs. “You’re an alpha. You can’t help yourself.”

“And you’re not a greedy omega?”
