With a burst of laughter, I roll my eyes dramatically to the ceiling and promptly end the call. “He’s grumpy today.”

Gabe chuckles. “He’s been busy with his business and organizing other stuff. I expect he needs a break.”

“Don’t we all,” I say, moving in front of the laptop and clicking on the postal address Ava asked for the sex toy to be sent to. “I’ve been working non-stop for months for this business.”

The printer makes a buzzing sound as it quickly distributes the label. I rip it off the backing paper and stick it on the plastic covering that secures Ava’s package inside.

“Okay, I’ll get my purse and I’m ready.”

“It’s here,” Jake says, grabbing the package and handing me my purse. “Let’s go.”

“This is overkill,” I say as I sit in the back of the black town car only minutes later. This is so Walker. He loves to be chauffeured around. Whereas, I enjoy driving myself.

“It’s safe.” Walker pulls me onto his lap and wraps his arms around me. “I still haven’t gotten over how close I was to losing you.”

“Okay,” I say as we drive toward the town.

I watch the world go by for five minutes.

My head turns to glance out of the window before I twist back to Walker. “Your driver missed the turning. We’re–” My voice trails off when the car doesn’t turn toward the town as I expected.

Walker glances out of the window, narrowing his eyes at the sign we pass before he places me onto the seat beside him and pulls the belt over my lap, clicking it into place.

I feel the thumping of my heart as it bashes against my ribs. “We’ll miss the deadline for the courier.”

“I’ll find out what’s going on,” he says, stepping across the back of the car and to the privacy glass. He presses a button and lowers the partition, but just enough for him to talk in private, but I overhear his calm words. “Are we going the right way?”

“Yes. Mr. Montgomery. This is the best route,” his driver says.

“Thank you.” Walker lifts the glass once more and takes his seat next to me again.

“This is the best way.”

“It’s probably because it’s a big car,” Jake adds. “Traffic must be lighter this way.”

I narrow my eyes and glance through the dark glass at the GPS on the dashboard, and when it shows he is speaking the truth, my shoulders sag as a sense of relief washes over me.

“You can stop being nervous around us,” Gabe interjects my thoughts.

I smile at him. He knows how I feel. I suspect he can feel my nervousness through the bond we share.

It’s not as deep as it will be when my alphas claim me, but it’s real.

The car cruises along a winding road. Tall, gnarly trees line the road, their branches forming a dense canopy above us, blocking out most of the light.

Walker shifts, wrapping an arm around me. “It’s okay, Eleanor. You know I’ll never let any harm come to you. My driver has been vetted.”

I trust Walker. I accept that there’s no need to argue with him.

The car turns into a busier street and slows down as the driver maneuvers through the increasingly congested roads.

Walker peers out of the window, scanning the area for any signs of trouble.

After another ten minutes, the car comes to a stop in front of a nondescript building with a plain black door.

“This isn’t the post office,” I say, turning to Walker, then to Gabe and Jake. It shouldn’t, but worry is playing with my nerves. “Where are we?”

As the driver opens the door on Walker’s side, my heart hammers in my chest. I grasp Jake’s hand.
