I spin to Walker. There’s a deep consideration in his gaze before he nods his head. “Tell her.”

“You already know him,” I say. My nerves unravel at her knowing about Walker before she accepts. Not sure why, when my own secret will be harder for her to hear.

“It’s Walker, isn’t it?” she asks faintly.

Walker smiles and lowers his head to speak into the phone. “It is, baby. You know you’re meant to be with me.”

“Why didn’t you tell me that night?” she asks.

“I wanted to make sure the choice was yours. You’ve had your rights removed before, and despite wanting to throw you over my shoulder and tell you that you belong to me, I couldn’t.”

I hope she doesn’t tell him he went too far. Walker has already beat himself up about that.

“Do I?” Her voice is hesitant all of a sudden. “Belong to you.”

“You know as well as me we can’t fight what is happening between us despite...”

“My dad...” she interrupts.

“Mainly because of your father and the trust he had in me, but...” Walker pauses, blinking his eyes shut for a moment. “Your father trusted me to find you and your sister. Despite what happened to you, he knew I would find you. And I think there’s only one reason he thought that.”

“Because he thought you were my mate,” she answers.

“Do you smell me, baby? Do I smell like your mate?”

“I think so. I’m ... I’m a little confused about everything,” she stammers. “Since that night, I’ve felt weird.”

Walker laughs. “About what, Eleanor?”

“About my body. I’ve been hot and bothered and I can’t settle. And I’ve...” She goes silent and I’m worried it’s getting too much for her. I’m scared she is going to change her mind.

“Keep talking, Eleanor,” I say.

“My heat is starting.”

“We know. Why don’t you get Jake to bring you to the house? He knows where we live. Everything is prepared.”

“Everything,” she murmurs. “A nest.”

“A beautiful soft nest, with the best fabric money can buy, soft lighting, pillows... lots of pillows.”

“It’s not too big, is it?”

“It’s the perfect size, small enough for you to feel comfortable, but big enough to accommodate your alphas when you let us in.”

“Let you in?” she questions.

“You’ll realize what I mean by that soon,” he says. “Are you taking the deal, Eleanor?”

“Five nights for five million dollars.” Her voice falters as she checks what the deal means. Yet, she has virtually admitted Walker is a scent match, and she’ll never want to leave. “Why are you giving me so much money when I’m probably going to look for you once my heat is full on?”

“Because I can afford it, but mainly because I want you to be in control. For you to make the choice. You’ve had too many alphas in your life who tried to control your destiny. Even that night in my car, I admit I took things too far with you. That’s what you do to me, and I’m sorry.”

I clear my throat as she says, “I’ve thought about it, and I’ve made up my mind. I want to be with you both and Jake.”

Relief washes over me, mingling with the overwhelming fear I feel for when she finds out who I am. I could hide away from her forever, but Walker refused. He knew what I’d sacrificed that day.

“Are you sure, Eleanor?” I check, waiting for any hint of doubt in her voice.
